Many here have heard this story of mine. I think a few of might not have so I'll highlight it. I feel it is possibly my best Vegas story. It involves golf so that makes it more special.

DJ and Koepka worked out of there because Claude Harmon was hired by Crane to be the head pro. He took them up on it and worked a few tournaments for DJ and Koepka. The number of tournaments grew every year. In a few years he was working more weeks in the summer than resting. He started doing all the European Majors with sometimes 7 players in the house. Chef started to win majors with Koepka. Everyone wanted the chef. His client list contained some of the TOURS biggest names. I know why he fits so well. He is to those guys the cool uncle, safe bodyguard, funny bastxxx, excellent cook of nutritious food, and an always on time guy who can be counted on for anything. Some big name players wanted him exclusively but he said he preferred to have numerous customers as that way he nor they would get sick of one another. What a wise stance. Last year chef left his position at the Floridian ( 8 years served and grew the membership X4)and is now a full time TOUR Chef. He is on the road for about 25 weeks out of the year. We chat weekly. I like hearing the inside the ropes dirt. 

I saw the chef a few times as he would come back and visit his Vegas friends and then head up to Mrs. Chef's family in Utah. I really enjoyed hearing the details of his TOUR clients and what he did for them. My good friend had certainly left the desert and truly found a better job involving chef service and golf. Not one of the girls became a cocktail waitress at a casino. All three of his daughters graduated from fine schools and have nice starts to their careers. Poor chef had to pay for 3 weddings also. Chef is now a grandfather. I last saw chef on final round Sunday at the Masters which Tiger won. That son of a Bi8ch as some of you know got me a last minute ticket to Augusta. I had plans to be with him at the Wells Fargo last spring at Quail Hollow with Rickie but then covid. That will happen though when the galleries are allowed back. For someone like me that loves playing the game and following the TOUR I sure am glad that way back 25 years ago I made a good friend for life opening a restaurant together on the Las Vegas Strip. I will be telling him of this story that I posted. I have his permission with the photos. I will in a few days delete them.  He is a fantastic story of fearless perseverance bouncing coast to coast taking on bigger challenges  playing larger roles and providing for his family. I am really proud of Chef and he knows I am his biggest fan outside of his family.

Chef is with Patrick Cantlay in their rented home on Malibu Beach for the Genesis. 

You've done right well you bloody Brit. So glad we meet back in 1996.

Well the last page in a half was a great read. Thanks for whom posted. And I had to make more coffee. Speed bump. The only restaurant(s) affiliation I had was as a professional dishwasher summers during H.S..  Decades ago. Some interesting stories, none of them myself, and none of them good. A tough gig for those living seasonally.

The outdoor experience is a fantastic spectacle but the scarcity makes it more memorable.  I hope the NHL doesn't go overboard but thus far they have been selective enough for me.  But it does seem to always be the Bruins, Blackhawks, Rangers or Pens playing. 

I believe 2022 will be in Raleigh at Carter-Finley Stadium with the Canes playing the Preds.

 Yes Sir Lancer!! I will be attending that spectacle in Raleigh where the N.C. State Wolfpack play ball in October as I did the Hawks Bruins stadium series game at Notre Dame Stadium. Unfortunately though transferring the pics over, they became corrupted and lost 😢. Never the less like the Metallica song "The Memory Remains"

Wow just wow. I'm kind of impressed. I just took a quick peak at the thread and you dudes filled it with good material today. Just endless jabs at the blonde stats guy........love it!   The greenone feasts on breaking balls on my appearance and his takes are funny as hell. Like I've said before the commish is always seemingly rocking the hair regardless of his age. As P3P said, we front men need a personal edge to exude flair. 😝 I am just now safe at home from my journey. Up and down through the Saluda pass on I-26 and back up the mountains to Asheville. I believe you will enjoy my few posts regarding my day. I just left 45 degrees at 6pm in the upstate, arrived just now to 21* at home. The winter golf warrior commish needs a large dinner and a few cocktails first. Good story and some choice pictures to come.

There seems always something to look forward to from the little rascals around our clubhouse. That makes commish smile.

When looking at the national weather map I feel mighty fortunate to say I played 27 today.

I left Asheville saying man this is going to be a cold battle today. It was grey and windy. The forecasted high down at the course had been reduced to 45. The sun was to come out in the afternoon so that made it doable to me. 

 

So I often stop when I get off the interstate in the quaint town of Landrum, SC. I walk a few blocks and peek in the store fronts. Stretch the legs after hauling down the interstate.  The few blocks of a downtown that they have are clean and very tidy. The place shows pride. So I spied the business in Photo one. I thought well that's calling me in. I better go get in Southern Karma's air space. By doing so it just might assist in my performance on the course in 90 minutes. I crossed the street and gave the building a nice pat and pulled in a big breath of teal storefront air. Then something caught my attention across the street. I saw an ancient Hair Salon sign and wanted to get a closer look. My heavens that is an old sign. Oh and a classic barber shop pole to boot. I wondered if I could pop in for a quick shape up. The L man is due. I popped in Smith Association Barber and Salon after nearly tripping over all the wrought iron lawn art the store next door had featured on the side walk. Damn pink flamingo 'bout tore my Peter Millar. 😁 When I walked in the shop I saw an old timer sitting in the waiting area and he was perusing through a 45 year old Bob Guccione's Penthouse. I glanced over at the 3 barber chairs and there was the boss. A heavy set guy who relaxed in his nice red leather King barber's chair. He has his face buried in today's copy of the Rebel Times Daily.  Boss looks over the top of his paper and said, " good morning, what can we do you for?" I replied " Morning sir, can you do a real good Poults?" " the British flamer pro Golfer Ian Poulter I explained ?" Boss stands and puts his paper aside and tugged up his pants (britches in these parts). Boss then did a light lift of the left leg and ripped a dandy. Something about he put too much hot sauce on his Bojangles Chicken biscuit was mumbled after he shared the gas. " No we don't do Pooty hair styles here boy. We do only solid Duck Dynasty looking men's hair cuts. How 'bout one of them fer ya? was the answer from Boss.

" That's certainly not commish, but thanks," I replied.

 I needed fresh air and headed out. All was not a negative stopping in the barber shop. I grabbed a Penthouse from the table for the road.

I had a tee time to get to. 

 

In  second photo (enlarge ) look down the sidewalk to see the vintage sign of Smith Association Salon. What a name, what a place.
