Man y'all had commish busy last week. 

 

The basement party scene photo really brought in the comments. It wasn't too bad though as I ended up being called Barry Melrose and everyone knows he is the most GQ man in pro hockey. Nice!  lol 

 

P3P's words pertaining to the event had me laughing pretty hard. I have been meaning to reply.  For a recap here are some of the things he said.

Me:  The head room isn’t great so you can’t do the super high sexy ‘do I love. Maybe just 6” high.

 

Me:    When we get the balloons up it won’t feel like the basement at all.

 

Pea:  It’s gonna be great.  I can’t wait to go to our secret spot after. 

 

Pete suggests the tone that commish was a kind and sweet boyfriend. One who is considerate with the words that come of his mouth. Probably wasn't the case. I'll give you the more accurate lines commish said.

 

 

 

Me: Dang woman that is the second bottle of Paul Mitchell Freeze Hair Spritz this month you have gone through. I'm gong to have to take on an additional shifts to pay for your hair styling products.

 

Me: (commish was decorations chair) I see this.......Balloons up along the ceiling in various shades of blue. Balloons filled with nitrous back in Mr. Barnaby's janitor's closet. And large fish bowls with to go ballons (trojans) at each doorway. 

 

Me: (upon reaching our secret spot)  My God Pea! wtf! That bush is so 70's, Yikes. It's gotta go immediately. 

 

 

 

Funny stuff is often plentiful on our thread. It makes it better. 

 

Some of you are old enough. Remember Kodak using this as a theme song?  The basement party with the Pea. Twenty something and feeling pretty good. You know before real life kicked in.

Cam did handle it admirably then and after the fact on social media. Good story that taught a few young men a lesson I surely hope. No need whatsoever (especially in that setting) to be a wise a** to an elder.

I fondly remember the "Pea" as she was surely one of a kind. Working and playing together back in the day "Sir Lawrence" was quite the ladies man.  We had a few years back in the 80's before the commish headed west to Las Vegas where we were working, partying, and playing golf together and it was a grand time indeed. We were never going to get older. And we always had fun wherever we went. I was a bit shy around the pretty ladies and the "pea" was not only pretty but also very in love with the blonde guy. 

 

I can recall being regaled with the one story of my french tennis pro roommate, who tipped back a steady stream of vodka cranberry in a large white golf ball topped Thermos that read "19th Hole" in green letters, announcing the fact for Martin, fondly and aptly named "Martini," that yes it's "5 o'clock all day long which is everywhere"!  I called it the 19th hole drip. Well, I can recall the commish was trying to separate himself from the loving clutches of "Ms Pea", who had visions of "little touches" running around with plastic golf clubs and a lighter shade of fluffed out hair. This simply could not be. For even back then, when a golf match was at hand Touch was sure to be found on the local links this time with the infamous "Martini" and the white and green Thermos the "19th Hole" It must have gotten back to the "Pea" that Mr. "Lawrence" was playing golf instead of working that day. And the "Pea" found out it was at the local course which we all played on a regular basis. Penderbrook in Fair Oaks Northern Virginia.  This mayhem is based on the story I heard from the man with the Thermos and the Commish with one less 8 iron. 

 

It started out as a lovely day for golf and the two were off and running.  1st hole. Straight par 4 slightly uphill with a kidney shaped green with bunkers in the front and downhill lie in the back, trees on the left, Hole #2. a tight par 4 slightly right to left with a driveable green if you dare crank one because OB was all along the cart path on the right and behind the green. So far all is well for the two golfers talking I am sure how they were able to deceive the ladies in their lives, and get a weekday pass. Hole #3. One of my favorites because it was a tight Par 3 with elevated tee boxes, elongated narrow but wide tiered green with a stadium like hill bordering a neighborhood street and townhomes and condos in the back just off the green and a small pond in front with a bunker in between. This was the hole that we parked an old beat up bar customer's 70's Ford Granada with rust spots. in our weekly Hunter's Restaurant golf outing season finale golf tournament which featured a ton of drinking every Wednesday afternoon with a blind drawing of pairs and nassau style best ball with net handicaps for cash. We had a commissioner who adjusted our handicaps each week based on how much money we won the week prior, with long drive and closest to the pin prizes. Well, the Grenada was a prize for a Hole in One on the 152 yd par 3, all downhill to a very narrow green with high grass and a severe hill bordered by a road behind, many of my tee balls were lost in that grass and many of miracle flops from the woods on the left. Some even careened off the road into the subdivision.  Which is about where the Pea and Sir Lawrence had reconnected... Yep the Pea was a bit frazzled and it might have been to much hair spray, or maybe the ups and downs of two young bucks having differences of social obligations, but she was not having any of it! 

Hole 4. Hilarity ensues as introductions are forgotten and a chase ensued that made anything you might have seen in the black and white films of Chaplin, Marx Brothers, 3 Stooges, look mundane.

Hole 4 was a severe narrow par 5 which bent from left to right to an elevated green guarded by a small stream on the right in thicket with a meandering creek across the area where you would lay up. This is where the chase begins as amicable was no longer an option, I can not remember the dialogue which transpired nor the specifics so I am sure my good buddy Touch will gladly supply us with the gory details, I hope no one here is afraid of trains because it was a train wreck indeed.  Thinking back to all of this even though I was not there, I can only say if that golf course could talk it would have a lot of really funny stories to tell....Soooo as hilarity or should I say mayhem, ensued I believe it was the 19th hole drinking martini who was driving the cart while Sir Lawrence was fending off the ravaging fervor of the Italian angered "Pea" She was no pea on this day mind you.  She flung off those summer sandals and took a bee line for one golf cart with our dashing blonde Bill Glasson styled golfer being driven by our french accented vodka cranberry "the European technique" minded ladies man with two golf bags and of course the Thermos " the 19th Hole" That 80's Hair was not helping the poor little "pea" but it would not deter her either as the cart was being hindered by the severe uphill lie of that damned 8 -10 on the card inducing par 5 I have come to despise over the course of time I played out there,  this par 5 was taxing our two golfers to the point where the "Pea" managed to catch and latch onto the cart while it was in tow with the little Pea clutching whatever she could get her hands on which may have been the 8 iron right out of the bag and now being used as an instrument of destruction! A tool to show the amount of anger and rage one little pea can display like a school science fair volcano after you drop a small amount of baking soda.  Game On! Only to be ended by Hole #5 a straight ahead par 4 with a downhill slope and a much faster golf cart. The frenchmen and the blonde golfer were now safely speeding away with their family jewels, golf bags, and the 19th Hole all safely entow minus one 8 iron.  The Commish was seen later on the back 9 playing a 3/4 7 iron into the 16th hole par 3!

I was ready to pull the trigger on Joel Dahmen, because I like his headwear, but he is not playing this week in FL.  There is something to be said for the FL swing of the tour.  Flat, hot, and muggy.  Reminds me of a month I spent in Marathon.  Boy was that a long time ago.

Because I want Touch to have to spell it, I am picking Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and if there is an option, I would like to buy a vowel.

This guy is in the "Two Last Name" HOF.  Harris English.  It just feels like its time for him to play well.  What do you think they were thinking.  You know, I like David, but that's a first name, let's confuse everyone and go with two last names.

Lastly, it is time for Hideki Matsuyama to turn it around and win a tournament.

There are so many players who are, on paper, much more accomplished than my picks but I am a gambler.  Alright boys, lets get down to Bradenton and have a good tournament.

That is the Spirit! "I like cut of your jib!"  Going chalk every week when no money is at stake is a bit dull. I know of some of these fantasy golf sites that make you pick from tiered levels Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 based on how well golfers are scoring and win. Points awarded not just for placing but for  Albatross, Eagles, Birdies, Pars, bogeys, and worse. Tier 1 would be your DJ, JT, Koepka,Rory, Rahm, 2 might be DeChambeau, Finau, Matsuyama, Oosthuizen, Jason Day, Tier 3 could be the up and comers like Kisner, Cameron Smith, Berger, and the old guys like Woods, Michelson, etc, Tier 4 would be a bunch of tour also rans or young rookies Picking from each tier requires to much thought though Courses for different horses all that stuff goes into it.

commish is up to his A** already with the point system tallying. Thanks though to greenmachine ( he devised it) as our point system is a fine way to score our contest. The Tier system does sound like a better game, but I'll leave ours as it is . In talking via the phone this evening with doctoro he reminded me that there are no cuts this week. We also laughed at the Pea story he shared in an above post and I feel like I might be obligated to share a few colorful details about that day on the course and the Pea in general. 

 This weeks field is made up of 72 players and there is No Cut. " Hooray you cant' lose points this week, exclaimed Q and commish."  So the scoring will remain the same for the top 20,10,5 spots and the winner, but we will add you receive +1 point should one of your players make the top 40 but outside of the top 20. 

  If my player finished Outside of the top 40 commish, then what happens?

One of my first restaurant management gigs in the D.C. area was Maitre "d  of the Penthouse restaurant (seriously it had that cheesy name) atop the National Clarion Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. It was a fairly spectacular setting . It overlooked the Pentagon, D.C. and the Potomac river. The year was 1987 and the NFL Players strike was on. James Brown was staying in the hotel covering the strike and ate dinner upstairs with us a few times a week. He was a mannerly and pleasant gentleman and I enjoyed having brief conversations with him. It is there where I snagged the Pea. Mary from Youngstown, OH. 

I wore a full black tux ever night for that job. Of course it was only shirt and suspenders most of the time with the jacket only being donned during service. Boy suspenders sure were the craze back then. I see it is today called the Doubletree by Hilton. 

....and hey doctoro, I too look back on the decade of the 80's when you and I were close friends living the D.C. Metro experience together with great fondness.    cheers buddy
