Per the BMW Twitter feed....Tensei AV Raw Orange.

Good catch. He caught some fire with the Tensei Orange in 2018 when he won at Bay Hill. Maybe a little change can give him a spark for the end of the year here. Was in the blade putter last week too.

He oughta be testing some suntan lotion on those legs.  Egads man!

He's Irish, really no way around it. ?

Rory has definitely been tweaking and looking for something it seems. Going from the 10.5 head turned all the way down to the 8.0* turned up to whatever he is in now. Curious to see how this plays out.

If anyone caught his post round interview last week, he mentioned he needed to add some spin to his driver to stay out of trouble. He said he might lose 5-10 yards but he has to add spin.

Does anyone know if he lofted up?

I think they have relationships, but no contracts.

Think I’ve heard that talked about a few time on mgs podcasts.

Could be very wrong.

Spot on - None of the shaft mfgrs pay the players to use their goods.

Curious why he only uses Mitsubishi.. if he isnt getting paid, there might be something else out there thats better for him?

Given that he's used that Kuro Kage XTS from 2014 until now (minus the year with the Pro White) and has lead the tour in strokes gained off the tee most of that time, I think it is safe to say he found what works for him, until now that is. The SIM is very low CG and lower MOI than previous models he has used and.....

Also noticed he's got the sim weight out toward the toe.

....he is a toe miss guy, which with a low CG, lower(relatively) MOI head is a combo for the dreaded left miss. Rory missed a bunch of drives left at the Northern Trust last week and it led to some blowups. The driver is and always has been his big strength, so losing that edge costs him big. I think he is fighting a lack of stability right now and is looking for a little more spin to help.

Imo once you get a shaft weight and flex dialed in...they all do about the same... irons seem more effected in shaft performance because of feel... but imo all 50 or 60 gram stiff graphite driver shafts feel similar give or take one companys stiff is another regular and vice versa. Once you have  the one you want a miss left or right seems swing or set up related to me. Im similar to rory in that i hit alot of driver on every course and of im off left or right.. its going to be tough to play well. Just had a terrible front 9 driving +12... then back 9 was tottaly different +5...87. Usally id go 5 n 5 or 7 n 5 somewhere there.

Yea i understand that, just anytime he is spotted testing a new shaft its Mitsubishi. Maybe he has a good relationship with them, but surely he has tried some other stuff off camera..

Yeah, a good relationship seems likely. He was a Fuji guy back in the day and still had the Rombax P95 in play until 2017, but he was using Diamana Prototypes prior to marrying the XTS so he likely has something/someone there he's connected to.

He is, but one of the reasons that is the case is because he is able to stay on top of making tweaks when things go a little sideways, like they did at the Northern Trust as I mentioned. As a guy that works the ball both ways, he needs spin stability and the SIM is lower spin than any of the previous models for his purposes (draw player with a toe miss) so he's making tweaks to stabilize that.

Did I just hear on the telecast that today (Round 2) he already switched out drivers and/or shafts from Round 1?

Looking at Getty Images, Rory’s still using the Orange Raw. Maybe a different driver head. Maybe it was a putter change from the blade backto Spider X.
