New Apex Irons?

Recommended Posts

Hi Y'all!

I've had a look around the retail stores in Sweden, and Callaways Apex line is either on sale or out of stock at the moment. I also heard on TXG live that they didn't have any Apex head in when somebody asked for a comparison between that and JPX Forged.

In January thev've been out for two years, could it be that Callaway is changing the release schedule?

Could be, but the only thing I would see being different would be the introduction of the AI face design.  I just picked up the Apex 19s from Callaway CPO, and couldn't be happier with my purchase.  Decent forgiveness, easy to flight low if need be, go a mile, feel great, and they look good too!  I mean don't get me wrong, I would go hit a new Apex model, but it will probably be another 3 years before I get a new set of irons.

In the bag

Driver: Taylormade Sim2 Max 9*

4w: Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero

Hybrid:  Apex 19 3h 20*

Hybrid:  Apex 19 4h 23*

Irons: Callaway Apex CF 19 5i-AW

W1: Vokey SM7 54* S

W2: Vokey SM8 60* L

Putter: Swag Handsome Too

I think Titleist T100 had a leg up on the Apex Pros because of the tungsten in both the heel and toe creating a higher MOI. The Apex Pros only had tungsten in the toe. If they went heel and toe tungsten in order to close the MOI gap and then added the AI face it would arguably put Callaway on top of that space from a tech standpoint.

Seen the new irons today. The MB is just like the protos that were posted last year but in chrome. (I forget whose bag that was.) And the CBs and UT have a larger interchangeable tungsten weight. Looks were pretty good I thought. Some people will love it, some will hate it.

Are the Cbs the x forged replacement irons? I am assuming they are moving away from the x forged name line. To be honest i do not think the x forged line was a real big hit. The X forged utilities were brilliant.

Yeah. I missed the whole tech talk part and just wanted to see them from address. Very similar to the X Forged. The adjustable weight on them will be great for club builders, though I don't see the average Joe knowing or caring.

disagree, i have seen the X Forged 2013 model in quite a few better players bags here, i personally dont really see many Apex Pro's floating around here, and come to think of it havent seen the 2018 model in anyones bag but have seen quite a few 2013 X Forged sets in single digit guys bags, as many of the guys here say in 2013 Callaway got the forging process right with the X Forged line and they are butter soft and a good condition set is quite sought after by some folks.

do agree on your comment on the UT however, they are magical.

They did not move away from the X-forged name.  I saw pics of them.....in the cavity they say “X Forged CB” and “X Forged UT”

I liked the 2009's better myself. Never should have gotten rid of them.

I was not talking about the 2013 x forged. I was talking about the current x forged irons.  I would agree the 2013 x forged were good bats and felt great.

Oh, nice!  I really like the shape on this one.  Don't mind the weight.  Actually think I kind of like it.  I know it will turn some people off.  But, it reminds me of the Adams MB's from years ago.  Plus, if it means accurate swing weights on custom orders, even better!

I've been torn on the screw since I saw the proto in a bag.  However I must say, I understand for fitting why they did it for those that maybe don't like the look of lead tape.  As you'll see I've had to add lead tape to my MB 8i and my CBs 7i to get the proper swing weight.  It's a bit easier to mask in the cavity.

I actually had an issue with the T100 having the weight in the heel. Obviously it is a great iron, and many guys play it, but I couldn't keep the ball from going left. I know a few other guys that are much better than I am that had the same issue.

It can't be that bad considering it's the #1 iron on the PGA Tour, nevertheless probably why they made the T100S more "fade biased".

I hit both and the blade with the project x ls felt like butter.  I did not like the feel of the cavity back but it also had the project x IO shaft and I don’t think that shaft jives with my swing. The blade had very little offset it looked better than the Apex blade. The cavity back had too much offset to my eye.
