Still gaming my TM V-Steel 3 wood from years ago.  Had it re-shafted a couple of years ago when I redid my whole bag, but kept the V-steel.

3w had been a revolving door for 5 years or so. Finally went back to a 5Deep about 3 years ago and have been content since. It's not perfect, I'd like something perhaps a little easier off the deck, but it's not difficult by any means. Great combination of higher loft, deeper face for lower spin and a taller face to be great off the tee. I've been temped by others, but she's still my main squeeze, for now. ?

Titleist 917f2 16.5* at 42.5".  Thing is a cannon and has gotten me to more par 5s in two than ever before.  I don't see changing this one anytime soon.

I have been experimenting with a SIM TI 5 wood and it is every bit as long if not longer than my TS2 16.5. It flies so high and so flat off the tee it is just bananas.

Just to add as I am feeling very nostalgic talking about the great fairway threads of WRX past. I don't remember where I saw, it but it has never been more true.

I got an Adams 12 XTD late, and had an issue with the glued in weight... they sent my back an Adams Speedline... It's still in the bag.

 

I have no plans on replacing it as a generic 3 wood. 

 

It might get replaced by a secondary driver that I'm theory crafting...

Ps- only on WRX when asking about oldies but goodies, would you get replies about 917f and TS2 ? I love this place.

Gamed the nike covert 2.0 for years until just about a year ago when I bought a used 917 f3 and absolutely love it

Started off with a Cally XR Pro 14 degree, it was great off the tee but it was kinda too long yardage wise so it almost served no purpose lol. Switched to a 16' M2 HL 16.5, same shaft GD tour ad Mt 8tx playing an inch shorter than standard and its perfect. Got it for like 65 bucks, threw my shaft in and have no plans of changing it ever. Very versatile club.

On topic though: LOVE(D) my Ping Anser 4w. That thing was just great. The XR Pro I had after that was better off the tees, but harder from the fairways due to the deeper head. My current Sim Max is the easiest I’ve hit so far, so I do seem to be upgrading ?

Two that stick out.

 

One was the G20 the OP mentioned. I had a G20 4-wood that was absolute money.  I have no idea why I got rid of it, it was fantastic.

 

The other was a Wishon 949MC 4-wood that I had over a decade ago. That thing was a rocket launcher.  I can't remember what happened to it, but I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have.

I've still got a Mizuno MP Titanium from 2010 in the bag. I love the compact package and its as long as anything I've hit in the past decade. Its not the most forgiving club in the world, but I do find it much easier to shape the flight and trajectory. Always tradeoffs I suppose...

Pros at all levels often have a "vintage" FW in the bag.

This spring I walked 18 holes with our club's assistant pro in a regional golf tournament. The third hole was a 580-yard par 5, running 300 out and turning 90 degrees left for 290 yards. He tried to cut the corner, and ended up about two feet into the rough, just short of the fairway.

 

He took his 6i halfway out of the bag, then dropped it back in. Out came a Calla XHot 3W from 2013.  He sized up the shot, hit down on the ball, and hit a bullet draw that kept rising and flew over the horizon. The ball chased onto the green, and he lagged a putt 30 feet left for a tap-in birdie.

 

That's why he's a pro and I'm not!

I took a flyer on it for a good price. It is so consistent in almost every lie. I have not tested sim but I imagine that would be the only comparable feel through the turf! Also its a great conversation piece when I bomb it 40 yards past my playing partners drivers;)

You tried the E8 3W....I have the E8 16.5 in the bag for over 4 years and love it.  Stock stiff shaft, face is shallow and just clicked for me

I still play a Titleist 909f2 3 wood. It certainly doesn't compete with modern fairways for distance, but it gives me good yardage gapping and is extremely workable.

I have a Callaway 816 Big Bertha Alpha 16* with an Aldila Rogue Silver 70X that I can't get rid of no matter how hard I try.  It's probably five years old now. It's a compact head (165cc) , not super long or forgiving but I just hit it better than anything else

It seems a lot of people have found success with the same recipe I stumbled upon: 

 

A cut down 4W.  

 

My m3 HL is cut down about an inch with weight added back to get around D3. It is the only FW I've ever had confidence in for the 15+ years of serious golf I've played.

It wasn’t as good off the deck for me, but from the tee it was an absolute cannon. Aldila pro green 75x.

For off the tee or windy conditions- Taylormade TP tour issue paint break V steel 13* w/ Aldila Tour Green 85

When lots of carry is requirement of course- TEE cbx flat lie 16.5 w/ Aldila RIP 80

Most versatile and commonly played- Titleist 917f2  16.5 set at d1 w/ Fuji Motore Speeder 8.2

 

Went down fairway wood rabbit hole a few years ago after my trusty Taylormade 200 tour 17* Duffy w/ Fuji TS green 869 finally gave up the ghost after years of faithful service ?...not a good place to be...never get rid of a reliable fairway wood or putter, that concludes my public service announcement...?
