So, by era, here are some players I am thinking about who had pretty or aesthetically nice swings that we would all love to have.

 

Pre 1950: Bobby Jones

1950s and 1960s - Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Gene Littler

1970s - Tom Weiskopf, Johnny Miller

1980s and 1990s - Steve Elkington,  Davis Love III, Payne Stewart (Fred Couples has maybe the sweetest tempo ever, but that outside/drop inside move is less enviable)

2000s - Ernie Els, Retief Goosen,  Tiger Woods (Butch Harmon edition), Luke Donald

2010s to today - Rory McIlroy,  Adam Scott

 

What do you guys think?

OK we are talking about aesthetically pleasing, right?

1920's Jones, Mac Smith

1930s-40s Snead easily could add 1950s also, Hogan was not aesthetically pleasing. 

1950s Bolt, J. Boros

1960s Littler/Geiberger

1970s Weiskopf, Miller, Pate.

1980s Love, Couples.

Prob some others I missed.

I volunteer at Riviera every year...so get a chance to see these guys up close and personal.  Funny thing is, in person they're all damn smooth and silky!

 

Of current players, I really like Paul Casey's swing...feels like he should win more, but the same could be said about many of the others mentioned.

 

Swing I'd want is Couples...he played my "home" course at the time, Bellport Country Club, for a charity exhibition over 30 years ago...choppered onto the first fairway, and watching him effortlessly waltz around the course was thrilling - his bunker play and lag putting was extraordinary too...considering he'd never played the course.

For me, Hogan is top of the heap. Tiger (Butch era), Adam Scott, and David Duval are the others that I really love to watch swing the club. Duval was very unorthodox, but his swing was an awesome mix of great tempo, balance, athleticism, and elegance. He's definitely my favorite from the modern era.
