Declining a random pairing?

I never understood people that get angry when a ball rolls up on them from a far distance and likely rolled out much further than expected. You got a lucky bounce/roll, you didnt take aim at the group! balls flying over your head or landing at your feet are different. Anyone will gladly take an extra 10-20 yards of rollout, dont get mad when it happens to someone else and it has zero chance of hurting you.

I don't like it and I avoid doing it to others.  Just because someone is just out of range, doesn't mean you should still fire.  Personally, I don't like to hear a ball bounce behind me while I'm standing over my ball.  It's really distracting for me and I feel that I need to take cover in case the ball hits something and skids on.  In return, even if the group ahead is out of range, I'll wait for them to start walking before addressing my ball.  Yeah not doubt in summer we've all had some that run on and on and well it happens but sometimes I've played it happens continuously and it actually makes me play slower because I'm constantly backing off.

So when I called the fella out of it a couple of holes later, the guy basically went off saying because I had hit into them he could do whatever he could, he could step on it, throw it away, pick up it that it was essentially his property.  I told him to get stuffed and like life in general, you shouldn't be touching another man's balls

I would have abandoned the twosome immediately, especially if the course is fairly open ahead or behind you.

The money you paid for your round should entitle you to an enjoyable experience and they were the idiots so I wouldn't feel bad about ditching them.

I've done this in a non-confrontational way in the past by suggesting something like:

- "Hey guys, I've got somewhere to be in X hours, so I'm going to go play ahead if you don't mind and then you guys can take your time"

- "Hey guys, I'd like to play a little slower and hit some more practice shots, etc. Why don't you go ahead and I'll play behind you"

I think my question has already been answered in this thread, but it seems like it is ok to play ahead of your pairing if the course is open, correct? I try to be off the first tee on a local 9 hole course on Saturday mornings. I’m not very good but I like to play relatively quickly. I’ve been paired with some singles who play fast enough and the round is enjoyable having company. A few times I’ve been paired with buddies who came together or family members who came together and are looking for a more leisurely round. Is it acceptable after a hole or two to say, “hey, it was great meeting you but is it ok if I skip ahead on the next hole”.  This assumes I would not hold them up on any holes. Is this ok?

And what if he mishit it ?

As a previously poster said it's disconcerting even if it's not dangerous.

If I have 250 to the group in front of me I can't reach them,,,,,,,,,, but I'm still not hitting until they move along.

I understand, its still always best to be on the safe side. I myself never hit until the group is out of range or well off the green encase I pull/push my shot. I have had balls roll close and have never been annoyed. I have also had to dodge an incoming shot, which needless to say, gets anyone heated.

Playing alone is something you can do if you are a member of a private club. You get a tee time in an open crowded course and business is business. Gotta fill in the time slots and you are never alone.  And that’s what random pairings is about often. This is too part of golf. And this is the time when golf buddies are gold in golf.
