BEST APP FOR STATS

Recommended Posts

As the title states, what are you using to keep track of your golf stats during the round. I need to start doing this even though I know my weaknesses, just want to know the actual numbers / percentages.

The best "dashboard" for viewing your shot tendencies and stats that I know of is Arccos. It'll cost you $180 up front plus $100/year. You'll need to put sensors on all your clubs and either carry a phone in your pocket or wait a few months until you can buy the Arccos LInk to record without having the phone in your pocket.

The slightly cheaper and second-best option IMO is the ShotScope V3 which is large-ish GPS watch that, again, uses sensors on all your clubs. Their dashboard for viewing the stats is not as comprehensive as Arccos and not quite as slickly presented but still pretty good. No annual fee.

If you want to manually enter each shot during the round there are various apps out there on the app stores. But it is quite a distraction to be pulling out the phone and tapping through menus on every hole. There is also an app called V1 Game (subscription $60/year) which will let you enter each shot on a map from memory after the round, if you are a person who can remember the location of each shot. Their analytics presentation is pretty basic but gradually improving over time.

There is no cheap and easy way to do this. The sensor methods will require doing at least minimal stuff during the round plus some correcting of missed, extra or erroneous shots afterwards. The no-sensor options require either a good memory or a lot of in-round hassle with a phone.

Hi @SEP1006 nowadays there are loads of fantastic stat gathering systems. I personally enjoy using the Original Game Golf. (Newer ones available) http://www.gamegolf.com/home/en-uk?v=a1530fb It was one of the earliest data capturing devices in Golf. it is like the Arccos with tags that go in the grips of your clubs but the stats is all web based and FREE. I have been using Game Golf for the past 5+ years and it has really improved my game both on and off the course. All you need to do is tag before the shot and I built it into my PSR.

At the end of the day the decision is yours and I hope you find one you like ?

Good golf

Thanks for the responses, not really interested in the Arccos type of thing. I was just looking for the basics. Fairways / greens hit and # of putts. Looks like the Grint is popular here. I guess I could always go old school and just right it on the scorecard and enter it into a spreadsheet at home.

Sorry to be so blunt but that sort of stat is of such limited usefulness, a list on paper or type it into a spreadsheet is plenty of analysis. Or use a free phone app if that's most convenient. Those stats don't actually allow any meaningful insight into your game, they're just a sort 30,000 foot overview. It's almost impossible not to already know everything about your game that fairways/GIR/total putts is going to tell you.

While those stats you mentioned do have merit, total putts is sort of worthless.    Was that total from 1' each time and your approach shots were almost perfect or were they from 100'  and you 3 putted each green?    If you have a few GIR but many nGIR and chip it close to the hole,  your total putts will be much lower than if you hit more GIR and have to putt from 30' or more.   Putts / GIR is a more valuable stat that total putts.

Your right and I did mean to say GIR.

Agree with you that Putt/GIR is better than Total Putts, but it is still less than useful since it doesn't take into account the exact starting distance of the putt. Strokes gained putting is a much better indicator of putting capabilities since the start distance of each putt is taken into account. My friends and I are launching an app in the next month or so that uses this measure for putting stats. There is also a web tool (found here - https://www.golfrankingstats.com/strokes-gained-calculator/) that will do it for one round.
