Who uses a separate PW from irons

Basically what the title says. I’m playing the 718 cb’s and don’t really like the PW. I play a 50 Vokey and love the options of opening it up a bit and don’t have any issues with playing a high or low flight. Was thinking of adding a 46 and taking the stock PW out. I have issues with flighting the PW and hate chipping with it. Should I look at a 46 or maybe the 718 mB PW?

 

Who is using a different PW and why or results?

Non set wedges like the vokey or MD5 work great it’s all preference. They only go down to certain lofts though so it depends on your set lofts

 

i use a pseudo combo set, where the 5-9 are irons and the PW and AW are from the pro series of the same irons

Mallrat, my son plays a 48* vokey with his Mizuno irons for the same reasons that you mention and it works great for him.

I swapped to a 46 vokey as I disliked knocking down and chipping with my Mizuno blade and it has solved those issues for me. I find it much more versatile, even if it might just be in my head.  

 

One thing of note: I find it a few yards shorter then my set PW on full shots.  One of my playing partners made the same move this season and found the same.  Talking 3-5 yards, but just an fyi.

I use a 46* RTX 4, along with the rest of my RTX wedges, in my bag. Srixon combo set is 4-9. 

 

I love its versatility and feel. Downside is sweet spot is smaller than a set wedge and its a touch lighter so you may get a bit larger gap between 9 and PW.. when I need to fill the gap I choose based on conditions but typically just choke down on the 9. YMMV but I think it's a great choice especially if you're someone who like to use a PW around the greens.

I've done this before but the Srixon 785 PW is one of my favorite clubs. Trying to get my hands on the gap wedge.

Just keep shafts in mind if you use different shafts for your irons and wedges. Personally I'd match it to the irons, but it sounds like you'd be perfectly happy matching it to whatever is in the Vokey 50* if you want to play it the same way just one club longer.

I'm also playing 718 CBs but I have them comboed with a 9 and PW 718 MB. A weird split I know, I just love the look of the 718 MB but wasn't comfortable splitting up to a 7i or 8i in it.

I play 5-9 p790s and have a 46° Jawz for my PW.  Can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.

I will be giving this a go in the near future. Not a fan of my WS tour PW, just a little too rounded. Will try a 46* Vokey

I prefer the set PW of my MP20 to the T20 46* for the vertical forgiveness that specialty wedges usually lack.  I felt the same for the Apex MB when trying a Vokey and Cleveland.  So it might not be a bad idea to go with the 718MB to keep the look similar, but add some versatility.  Unless the Vokey has some characteristic of sole/bounce/shape that fits you better, there's only a mental aspect at play.

I swapped out my Titleist T100 PW for a 46* Vokey SM8. Same shaft (KBS $ Taper), and all other spec's. For some reason the Vokey just fits my eye much better, and launches slightly lower, which I like.
