Scotty Cameron Mil-Spec 340g

Hi all,

I just picked up this excellent condition Mil-Spec 340g for a great price...

I had a query for the experts out there on what the etched serial number on the hosel means.

I know the serial number under the hosel cup means it has been refinished by titleist, but wasn't sure what this positioned serial number meant. I have heard it's a special order serial number but was not sure if that was correct...

The serial number indicates that it was a custom order of some sort. You could order those with custom lie angle as seen in the length and sole options.

Probably custom order number from the fact it's a 340G head, that's the only thing I can think of since it looks like standard lie.

I have a 340g (346g actually - quality control?) with no serial number!

I have seen the same, the guy i purchased it off claims that his father bought it from Pebble Beach ~20 years ago. I'm not sure if that's explains it, but he is adamant that it has never been refinished...

It does denote a special order.  I have three 350g Mil Specs.  My Gen 2 also has the same type stamp.  It is not refinished.  Strange enough, I recently picked up a Studio Stainless 350g that also has a custom order number like the above.  I had not seen any non-Mil Specs with this mark before buying that one.

Edit to add:  Great looking putter.  Take a little Flitz to it and it will clean up easily and safely.

The head shape is different from a standard Newport PP. It’s the closest retail offering to the tour-only 009 head shape that so many love. Also, the Mil Specs were offered in a variety of length, weight, loft and lie options. Now, they’re coveted for both head shape and the heavier heads (340g, 350g) that were very rare for Scotty’s before the introduction of removable weights.

The head shape was changed slightly between gen 1 and gen 2. I believe gen 2 had parallel bumpers, where as gen 1 has bumpers that curved down slightly. See this old post below for more info.

Gen 2 has less offset as well. Gen 2 is considered to be the closest OTR Cameron to the 009.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Here are a couple more pics since I have cleaned up the grip and the rust spots.

I'm pretty chuffed that I picked this up for $195. That milling is out of this world!

I used just a soft plastic bristled brush, like you clean your dishes with and some dish soap to scrub the grime off it. Then to bring a little bit of white back to the cord i used a small bit of bleach and scrubbed it with the same soft bristled brush followed by a bit more soap to remove the bleach, dried with a towel and she is clean and looking like new again...

awesome find, if I could find a lefty for more than that I'd gladly pay it

I was very lucky, it was $275 in AUD or ~$195 in USD. I will not let this one go, it also joins my Newport 2 PP i picked up for another bargain as well ($200 AUD or ~$155 USD). I have also just cleaned the original cord grip up on the Newport 2.

I have also sourced an original Scotty Cameron PP shaft cut it down to 34" and put a red Baby T grip on it to potentially put in either of these putters when i feel like a change...

That is a gorgeous putter! It's in even better condition than mine! I have not seen too many mil-specs that are not Standard lie, with yours being upright. Great pic up!

It looks to be a gen 2 mil-spec like mine as well. The gen 2 models have beautiful milling and generally have the serial number etched on the hosel.

I just picked one of these up in the UK for £180 which I’m chuffed with. It’ll actually be my first Scotty. Any tips for cleaning it up like you guys? You did a great job@Pesquado

Hey mate,

I was very fortunate in that the only spot that had tiny bits of spotting rust was on the hosel cup, so i used a bit of coke to clean up the rust spots and then applied a bit of silicone spray to the head to prevent any further rust from appearing.

The grip was in good condition, but very dirty so I used just a soft plastic bristled brush, like you clean your dishes with and some dish soap to scrub the grime off it. Then to bring a little bit of white back to the cord i used a small bit of bleach and scrubbed it with the same soft bristled brush followed by a bit more soap to remove the bleach, dried with a towel and she is clean and looking like new again...

Enjoy your new short stick! I would love to see some pics!
