Cold Spring NY - Course Recommendations

Going to be doing a long weekend up in Cold Spring in a few weeks and was going to get at least one round in. 

Looking for course recommendations, based on my half assed internet research I see West Point, Storm King, The Garrison...

Welcome to Putnam county NY. If you're coming here in a few weeks should be a beautiful time up here. 

 

The Garrison is my favorite course in Putnam. There's a rumour that they are turning it into a 9 hole course in the next few years so get to it now if you can. Some spectacular views of w

est point from many holes. 

My favorite course in that part of the world is the links at unionvale. Probably about 30-40 minutes to the northeast from you. Well worth the drive. You'll need to book a tee time well in advance if you want to play it.

if you don't mind driving, centennial in carmel is good. also, mahopac golf & beach club historically has been on box groove, and that's a very solid private track about 30 mins away.

The Links at Uniondale is probably the top public track near by. Centennial is overpriced after seeing a decline over the past three years ($150 plus on the weekends) and you're looking at 5 hours or more. It's sister course (both Troon run) is Mansion Ridge which is a Nicklaus design. It's not too bad of a hike. And Patriot Hills is a fun track with big elevation changes. Finally, a little further away you can check out Pound Ridge which is a public Pete Dye course. Pricey but a treat. It'll take about a hour to get there. Garrison is ok... And cheap. But pretty much your typical mini/public with nice views on a couple of holes.

I've played Garrison a number of times. Very interesting track. About a 100 foot drop from the tee to the fairway on #2(?). And it's only 6 miles south of Cold Spring.

 

Also played Mansion Ridge a number of times and it's also very interesting but it's about 1/2 hour or so from Cold Spring.
