Beginners club set

I'm a beginner golf lover who's never owned a decent set of clubs. My son just signed up for the high school golf team. He's scrawny 5'4", 95 pounds.

 

Looking for advice on what kind of clubs I should get him. So that hopefully he'll stay interested (and relatively inexpensive if he doesn't)

Several major OEMs have preowned sites, most have playability guarantees so can try and trade back if not happy with purchase.  Might go to Golf Galaxy or similar store, have try a few clubs with different weight shafts to get idea of what he likes.

I would search Craigslist and similar local sales for a used set, that way you can sell them for a close to what you paid for if it doesn't stick. Also, at his height and weight, a senior set might actually work pretty well.  He could use standard clubs but they would probably feel somewhat long/heavy to him. Not sure where you are located but many towns will have a shop that specializes in pre-owned equipment or if nothing else, a Play It Again Sports. Lastly, see if you can find a set that has hybrids for the longer clubs, will be much easier for him initially than trying to hit a 4 iron.
