Make Phil Great Again

I don't remember the actual stat but I thought he hit like 2 fairways all day and had missed fairways with irons. Hitting a long iron approach into 18 at WF isn't a great proposition. The problems were 1 not just hitting a poor drive but hitting one of the worst drives of his life and 2 not getting out safely to ensure he made 5.

It's really more symbolic of his career than any other moment. He was never able to develop a consistent fairway finder under pressure.  If he ever found that shot we're talking about a top 10 player of all time and probably double digits majors.  He's probably the worst driver of the all time top 20

HE had a fairway finder playing the 2-wood the summer he almost won at Merion and did win at Muirfield.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

We all love Phil.  He’s an all-time great.  A hall of famer.  A champion, a scholar and a philanthropist.

What does Phil need to do in order to get one last shot at glory on the PGA Tour?  There’s so much young talent (I get it, I get it) but between Phil’s hand-eye coordination and his competitive spirit can he not make one more run with the young bucks?

Again, I know this is the FIGJAM fan club on WRX but just curious to hear others thoughts.

Phil is no hero.

This guy is the real hero.

Phil never tried to make it right.  It was covered up.  Instead, he "turned over a new leaf" more than 14 time in his career.

I pulled some info from the article:

"Dealings"

If it was made legally, why pay it back?

not exactly true.

So, if he nothing wrong, why would he change the way he represents himself?

They should have brought in this guy.

Not where distance AND accuracy are required.  He may win another Open but I don't see a US Open or PGA in his future.  He might could pull a Zack Johnson if the stars and conditions align at The Masters.

Is Phil a great putter?

His short game confidence leaks into other parts of his game where he should be more reserved, driving for instance.

I think Phil's unlikely to win again on the main tour.  He's 6 years older than Tiger and about half as good based on total wins.  His last wins were March 2018 and Feb 2019.  In that same span TW picked up the tour championship, the Masters, and the Zozo.  As much as TW has been struggling in 2020, I don't see Phil doing any better.

just read the golf digest story of winged foot 2006.  Phil still thinks he could have pulled off that second shot at 18, nutty.  Just take your punishment and have a putt for par, worse case bogey and playoff the next day.

The story of poulter showing up on fathers day with a pink outfit and bag is HILARIOUS !!! Caddy said IAN lost the tourney soon as he showed up in that outfit.  "some of the boys were already at the drink", a must read.

He is LITERALLY #9 in career PGA Tour victories. To say he is not a top 10 player all time is really just strange.

I think he can win on tour again and perhaps squeeze out a major on the right course

I wonder why he stopped carrying that 3 deep?

I love Phil and believe he will win on the big stage again. What does he need to be great again, probably to stop trying some "Phil type" shots but then he wouldn't be who he is and thats why we love him. No one likes watching guys stripe it down the middle all day long and having a shot iron to the green, that is boring golf. Watching Phil and everyone else scramble and pull off a miracle shot is what keeps people from changing the channel.
