No artifice or ego involved intentionally here, simply have played to a somewhat reasonable standard in past and as such, have a strong preference for certain equipment. That equipment allows me to enjoy the game in manner best suited for me, hope you find what allows you to enjoy the game and discussions here more in the future and look forward to your positive contributions.

LOVE the bag / previous evolution bags ! And even more-so your written thoughts on evaluating / justifying (To yourself) why; and for what reasons something gets to or might fill a spot in your bag.
 

Your attention to detail on the tiny details; and treading an unwavering path of knowing what you like and suits; rings all my bells too.

 

Will be following in future with huge interest. *I feel we are somewhat ‘kindred spirits’ in a golfing and equipment sense…

What would be the purpose of hickory dowels in your 962 irons?  And where exactly might you acquire such dowels?

Old school club makers trick that adds a bit of vibration dampening, rumored to create a more solid feel..although still need to hit center to get that 😃 The dowels were cut, shaped, grooved, and weight sorted by yours truly, from stock acquired at home improvement store..quite a few guys on here have done same in past and more info can be found under clubmaking search of forum.

It will also stiffen the tip too especially on long hosel irons--- Also using heavier hickory or oak plugs adds hosel weight too--- The real old timers like my old man referred to it as being "slugged in the hosel". I had been messing around with a old 985 1 iron I have had for years and years going back to the late 70s--- I realized by feel that it was slugged in the hosel and remembered I had either Harold Dale in Charlotte or Boyd Huff in Greenville fix it for me way back when. Took it home and tore it down and it had a Hickory plug in it. I could tell it was Hickory by the smell. My wife was walking the boys and stopped by the shop in back. She asked if I was "cooking BBQ in the shop"?  Yep it lightened it up quite a bit. Can not hit it like I used to but I am 40+ years older too but It is serviceable for vintage rounds 

EDIT----I got to thinking about that 1 iron and went to the vintage bag and looked again ( it was in the front bed room) and it has a Hogan Apex #3 shaft. I think this may have been an early Harold Dale Machogan conversion. The club Boyd Huff fixed for me was a Hogan PC that I gave a young friend about 6 years ago now and he still hits it. Since my accident which I had a concussion too my memory comes and goes and sometimes it takes a while for everything to come together

Following up with what my friend Stu posted, dowels seem to have effect of raising center of gravity slightly thereby lowering trajectory. As always, result is very player dependent based upon delivery. Because of more spread out weight distribution of dowels compared to lead tip weights (which I and many others despise) and effect of stiffened tip section, dowels don’t seem to create draw bias evident with lead “slugs”. Also of note, dowels were used in Titleist 681T models and certain Custom Grinds as well.

I've not been involved with wooden dowels too much. Like at all (?). But as a golf club builder / spec ho and Engineer; could kind of understand most of your excellent info. **Closest i ever got was using (Gluing in) and then sanding smooth plastic tee pegs; to fill the void in the centre of graphite shafts when re-shafting Callaway thru-bore woods back in the day.

 

However i've also picked-up some really interesting stuff here too. Great content for us fellow information freaks !
