Is there a run on used clubs right now?

I keep trying to find a Ping G20 4 wood that I can buy and build a backup of my current gamer with, but every dang one of ebay is like $150-$180?? What am I missing? This club is what, now? 6, 8 years old?

I read in golf digest that club sales are up big this summer compared to last summer, due to golf popularity being up because of Covid. That would probably affect used prices I'd imagine.

Yeah, the used market has been crazy due to Covid/increased demand.  I'm seeing more players out on the course then any year before.

It’s truly been crazy. Been trying to snag a 5 wood on a good deal to see if it fits a gap in my bag and prices just balloon up on me every time right at the end.

Another area of short supply - bikes!  You can't get used ones much and new stock is back ordered.  People took to the roads with bikes alot and casual golfers became more interested depleting the affordable used stock.

Same happening here in NZ...big demand and prices..i just grabbed 3 ok deals in last ten days..our Summer starts October.

Also a lot of it depends on the popularity of the club despite it's age In the collector world Eye2 irons still command the highest resell value not because they are rare but because a lot of people still play them front line. Another older popular club is the TM  R-7 Quad quite a few folks still play them especially down here

It's easy...demand for used clubs is up because more people are playing. Used club supply hasn't changed. Demand outrunning supply = higher prices.

In the Uk its been nuts for about 3 months, basically when the courses reopened, it just seems to have slowed a little recently though, but we are now in September

I think that prices may have doubled from last year particularly if you're looking for something specific like a GW to complete an iron set.  They don't have to be rare or particularly coveted either.

 

I work at a course and I've seen more new faces this year than I have in the last ten years.  If this continues into next season I would expect prices to continue to improve for used gear.  There's a lot of demand when you have to book a week in advance to have any shot at getting a tee time!  Even the goat tracks are full!

I paid $150 for my Ping G LS driver last year.  They're going for over $200 on eBay.  2nd Swing is selling them for $230 in 8/10 condition.  It's a good time to sell used clubs.  And ammo if you have extra laying around.

Friend of mine got paired with a manager from 2nd Swing, who told him the stuff they have coming in doesn't make it to display, but gets boxed up and right back out the door.  Their inventory on their site is down quite a bit, also, and prices are up.

 

Head pro at my course joined us for 9 holes Friday.  Told us every month (except April due to late start) has been a record month for them.

2nd Swing has a set of 1-SW BeCu Eye2s (RH), never been hit, matching serial numbers, for the low low price of $3,667.99.  Apparently formerly owned by a collector.

This was my experience as well, basically eBay is out of control, I am puzzled why people buy used at hardly any discount to retail.  While I used eBay in the past for 2-3 purchases a year, this season I wasn't able to find a single deal, and most of the auctions are so overpriced it made me stop going there altogether.

Prices have been crazy. From what I have heard, any of the outdoor activities that you can "social distance" while doing have gone through the ceiling on prices. Also was told that since many people are working/staying at home more and not traveling, they have more time for outdoor activites.  I know that this year, I have played the most golf I ever have averaging 2-3 times per week. 

 

Deals on golf and especially bikes are slim to none to find. Only deal I have been able to score on golf clubs was a mint used set of Mizuno MP-H5 for $350

I thought I was the only one that noticed it.  Before the pandemic, I would go to Golfavenue and Globalgolf and easily find drivers under $50 and iron sets under $80.  Now I'd be lucky if I find a used set for under $120 on those sites.  There's slim pickings at my local thrift stores too.  Golf is definitely going through a resurgence that they haven't seen since Tiger won the '97 Masters, all thanks to Covid-19.

Prices on Ebay are up quite alot, with limited choices. Time to drag out some dregs from the garage to sell
