Titleist NXT-Tour...what fills that spot in their current lineup?

I was really proud of myself, having accomplished a small (but important) milestone in golf over the weekend:  I finished 9 holes without losing a ball to a hazard/OB/black hole.  While I cannot say that I finished the round with the same ball I started with (the original was run over by a lawnmower, but I carried on with the same model of ball), I was super happy to have not physically lost one.

 

That ball was a hand-me-down from an old neighbor:  A Titleist NXT Tour.  What I've ascertained is that it's a 3 piece ball (2 piece core, and the cover...that makes 3, right?) with a Surlyn cover.  Which current model of Titleist ball fits that slot in the lineup?

Tour Soft would be the closest I would think.

No exact comparable replacement ball.  The NXT Tour (3-piece, not the earlier 2-piece models) was a decent Surlyn ball. What killed it (in my opinion) was the price.  $35 for a Surlyn ball is pretty steep when you can get urethane balls in that price range.

I loved the NXT Tour balls.  I still haven’t found a regular gamer ball to replace them although I have been pretty happy with the Snell MTB-X.

I think even Titleist realized that its NXT balls were overpriced and missed the price point for a decent surlyn ball, so it's gone. If it's gotta be a Titleist, try the Velocity or TruFeel.  The TruFeel is as good a surlyn ball as you'll find.

Agreed......DT TrueSoft and new TruFeel are unbelievably good. 

   

The TourSoft replaces the NXT line but all the balls in the Titleist lineup (ionomer/hybrid/Urethane) are overpriced IMHO.  That said, all their balls are also top notch.

Thanks!  The TruFeel have been on my list to check out - gotta wait for a hot sale to pick 'em up though.

Just in from the Dick's Sporting Goods golf manager:  The Tour Soft and Tour Speed fit the same market segment as the NXT and NXT Tour, though I was a little unclear which one fit where.  $40 a dozen is a little steep for my game right now, so I think I'll stick with the clearance section of golfballs.com until I can start playing 9 holes with one ball regularly.

All of the Titleist NXT series of golf balls over the years were surlyn/ionomer covered balls. The new Tour Speed is a urethane covered ball that has nothing in common with any version of the NXT on any level except for being over priced for its market. The Tour Speed ball is not in the same market segment as the NXT and Tour Soft lines.

I was sent a sleeve of the TruFeel at launch and found it to do everything I need a golf ball to do. Stayed in play off the tee and full irons stopped dead or backed up on the green. When I switched to the higher spin tour level balls my scores did not improve.

It's honestly one of the best balls out there for your average weekend warrior.  It checks so many boxes across a fairly wide handicap range.  While it's never going to have the performance of premium urethane what it does have over other 2 piece surlyn offerings is consistency.  With the TruFeel I never feel like I have to question whether it was the ball or my swing.  I can't say the same for other cheaper 2 piece offerings.

I played NXT Tours for years. When they did away with the model I switched to Srixon Z Star XV and have been very happy with that ball. I find that the Srixon feels firm, which I prefer, and find both balls are similar in distance.

I played the NXT Tour as well, the DT and TruFeel perform on a similar level for me. The feel is slightly softer but they come in yellow! lol

I have only played the NXT for 2 rounds but have really liked how they are performing. I only got a box of 50 to try, so it sounds like I might want to stock up or start trying something else.
