2020 ANA Inspiration

ANA Inspiration

While there won’t be any seats around the first tee or the 17th or 18th greens, there will be scaffolding and signage. That’s of particular interest for those who like to go for the green in two on the closing hole: There will still be something there to stop the ball.

Honestly, in this 2020 year, for a one off on the 18th they should remove everything and make it bigger risk/reward hole.  In stead of potentially winning with a birdie or eagle, introduce more possibilities for the double bogey. ?

That's fun to see!

However, they decided to stay with the traditional rewarding setup.

I wasn't considering Brooke this week, cause she's been fighting her putter since she restarted and it's tough to predict when a player will fight through it and usually a Major isn't the place to start lol.  I went to my sportsbook and was looking at the odds and Brooke is 35-1 to win the event, so I put 25 bucks on Brooke to win.  I haven't been able to get Brooke at those odds since she had no status back in 2015 lol ?  I might throw 25 on SHP she's at 35-1 too, even if I haven't seen her form in a longtime.

@Stooch

Sung Hyun has been fighting an injury for sometime; she missed the cut on the only KLPGA event  she played in May 2020.

She declared herself to be 100% fit before she left Korea for the States 2 weeks ago.

Bet365 is a pretty good book; they seemed to put some thoughts into assigning odds, not typical cookie cutter staff.

Yeah, bet365 puts in some work, and for event winners they really focus on current form and past placements.  Where I find weakness is when they release event matchups after the pairing come out.  You can exploit weakness from them there sometimes, I got Brooke vs Brittany Altomore at even money at the Walmart and it was an easy win cause Brittany didn't make the cut.

I lost some respect for Bet365 putting Brooke and Brittany at even money.

Independent of whether Brooke is in or out form; she's still a tigress, not a sick cat!

Why lose respect, considering since 2016 the first year they both played the event Brittany has finished MC,5,T-3,T-19,T-13..not horrible..
Brooke has finished T-49,T-41,No Show,No Show,MC...yikes..
Pretty clear which of them plays better at that course. I know who I put my money on.

I'll be pulling for Sei Young to get that Major that's for sure, but she does not play well here. I look for J.Korda to pull her game together this week. Too easy to take all the suspected contenders( Inbee,DK,Lexi,Nelly,Minjee) so I will go with Lydia Ko for the W. Darkhorse for the week Jenny Shin. Charley Hull top 10.

I'll be secretly praying Lexi crushes the field..bad.

There in lies the rub, you like past results, I like current form, neither was playing really good and Brooke had 1 event to judge.  Brittany finished, 20th, 38th and 19th.  When two players are not in great form, I find taking the better players works out the best.  The last couple year would have been rough for ya if you were betting Lydia Ko past results, before she rediscovered her game this season.

I don't know where did you get the data on Brooke Henderson; but you're wrong.

Her record at ANA Inspiration are:

2019          T17

2018          T48

2017          T14

2016          T10

The final field has only 104 players.

I wondr how the two US Women's Amateur finalists will perform this week!  Rose Zhang is rock solid, she should make the cut and be inside Top-30; Gabriela plays inspirational golf and could go either way.

Rose Zheng played in this previously (2 yrs ago?).  Made cut and had a late-ish tee time for final round.  She is very, very good.

I have a hunch that In Gee is going to have a pretty good week.  I really have nothing to go on, except that she seems to be playing much better since the restart than she had in the past 18 - 24 months.

But, my pick to win this week is Lydia Ko.   I have not seen Lydia this confident and focused since she was in the apex of her time as World No.1 ... I get the impression that she is focusing more on course management than she is on swing thoughts -- and if that is correct, then that is good for her because she will be thinking scoring.  With the warmer temperatures, and the drier air than in March, I think driving won't be a factor at all for her and she will get lots of roll out and carry this year (more so than usual) and that will put her into better scoring positions.

This course, though, really favours the long hitters so I suspect @Stooch has a good pick in Lexi.

Better hope Lexi can control her backspin, assuming the greens will be hard as anything.

It's a dry heat. 'Should be an interesting week. It's a real shame that the defending champion is not in the field. 'Can't recall the last time this happened in a major.

I'm going to go with Danielle this week. She's long enough, plays tough courses well, has good course management, and she's simply been playing good golf before running out of gas. A two week layoff to recharge her batteries should do the trick.

With a number of top players sitting out, there's probably no better chance for Sei Young and Minjee to finally grab their first major. Nelly should be added to the list, too. SY looked solid in Arkansas. Minjee has been rock steady since the restart. Nelly seems to be coming back into form.

Almost sad to think of Lydia as a dark horse, but she's looking mighty good right now. 'Same with In Gee. Both are quite capable of grabbing the trophy.

My dark horse pick is Mi Hyang. In Kyung should also post a top 10.

This week I'm liking Nelly Korda.  She finally seems to be waking up a bit, but it's hard to go against Daniella Kang...but I will.  ?

Seeing all those familiar names makes it hard for me to pick a dark horse.  Any one of them can get hot, but I'll go nostalgic with Texas Ranger, Angela Stanford.
