Anyone experiment with PXi or PX IO in a long iron only to promote more launch and spin? Want to keep standard PX in irons and wedges, but curious to try PX IO in my 4 iron. I remember seeing Tiger using PXi in his 2 iron on an old spec sheet. Want my 4 iron to split the gap a little more evenly between 5 iron and 3 utility/3 hybrid.

IIRC one of those new PX is just like the PXi. Should work to get a little more speed and carry

Very interested in any insight to this

thanks

Would love to hear some views or experience with this shaft

modus 105-x previous

AMT white -s currently

wondering on this in the 6.5 (hearing plays a bit soft to flex), oban 115 s+ or 125 -s, other suggestions?

also the new Modus 115 when it debuts might be perfect

thanks

I have both the PX LS, 6.5 and the Modus 115x, but have not had enough time to test with weather/range conditions.  I will say the 115x is heavier in the tip section as I see about 1 - 2 swingweights heavier with it than most other shafts, the LS included (build my own clubs).  Only had one range session and it feels more like a light x100 and has the shaft ribs a bit further apart by comparison.

I can’t speak to the long irons but I just went through a fitting for the IO 5.5 vs my current PXI 5.5 with a 7 iron.  The IO launched 2 degrees higher with about 300 more spin and 5 yards more carry

Did you notice any stiffness difference between the two? I recall the past consensus was a 6.0 PX Rifle player would be a 6.5 PXi player (generally speaking), but when the LZ came out True Temper recommended that if a player fit into 6.0 Rifle it would be the same in the LZ.

Russ Ryden’s measurements indicate the IO may be more like the PXi in comparison to the Rifles — perhaps a little in between —but as your fitting placed you in the same flex in the PXi and IO am interested in your observations. Thanks.

Any insight or testing or use thoughts welcome

thank you

Just got the Callaway X Forged CB 4 iron with the PX IO in 6.5 after testing against Titleist T100, Wilson CB and Srixon ZX7 with KBS $-Taper and DGX100 (which I have in my current TM MC/MB '11 5-P combo set). I don't feel much of a difference between most of the OEMs' players cavity backs, and was mostly looking for the right aesthetics and more importantly shaft. For reference, I carry my 7 iron about 185y at 18ish degrees of launch and low spin.

All the irons with $-taper and X100 gave me basically the same launch angle as my current 7, with 5-10 extra yards of carry and similar spin, even adjusting for 2deg less loft in the ZX7. The IO shaft not only gave me more workability vertically and horizontally, but also got my spin up about 500 rpm, lowered my stock launch angle to 16, and helped me qualify for the US Open. Well, maybe not the last thing (yet!), but I can't wait to game a full set of these once the money tree flowers again.

TL;DR: Put in a Project X IO 6.5 to help reduce launch angle and raise spin. So far, so good. However, only seen Callaway offering it in the players cavity tier.

Ordered the PX IO 6.0 in a Callaway Apex 5 and 6 iron and am so pleased I went with the shaft for the rest of the combo, a DIY pairing with the XForged CB. I would say this shaft plays about the same as the PX LZ 6.0, even though the LZ is 10g heavier. Does not feel the same. I didn’t get that sense of hinging in the loading zone.

It is more the classic Project X shaft. The IO 6.0 also feels both friendlier than a Rifle but just as stable, and to me is more in the Rifle profile than the PXi. It is just not as demanding as the Rifles (which I loved BTW). I would say the IO 6.0 delivers a more penetrating trajectory than the Elevate Tour, and is just a touch stiffer than the s300 Elevate. But not a huge difference there. If you can play one you can play the other. IO does not have VSS so maybe that’s what I’m noticing, but it is not a harsh shaft. The IO weighing 110g and feeling a little firmer than the Elevate are the main differences. The IO is a good fit for me, worth a tryout as a nice contender for anyone who used to play Rifle 5.5 or 6.0 and wants something similar but noticeably friendlier IMO. Looking forward to playing it.

Looking for any updates on this now that some folks have had longer-term experiences.

Specifically looking at the IO 6.5 as it looks like it could be an ideal Modus 115 alternative (the shaft that never was).

Liked the feel of the LS 6.0 interestingly enough, but it did not seem to reduce any spin vs comparables.  6.5 however was too boardy for me.

Did the PX U just fall off the map? Does anyone play this? I have KBS tour stiff in my irons and thinking about the PX U after a recommendation from Sub70 for a utility iron.

Bump..

I still cannot find any actual reviews on this shaft (Project X U; steel shaft designed for utility irons). Would’ve thought that this would be more popular.
