Favorite Budget Putter

I was hoping to try a more mallet type putter.  I have a super old Anser 2 and just have absolutely no control or touch anymore (not the putters fault), and feel super uncomfortable with it.  I don't want to spend the money to go get fitted.  I saw on "another site" that the Wilson Staff Infinite "The L" tested very well. I wanted to see what other putters people thought I should look at in the sub $150 range (the lower the better).  Does anyone have any suggestions for other putters to look at? I heard that the O works #7 might be worth a look. There's just so many options and right now it seems like there isn't a whole lot of places that are allowing you to test out products.

 

Anyone have any favorites or suggestions in that price range?

That other site is why I bought the TA3 as seen in my sig.  For a hundred bucks, you get a whole lot of putter.  Very appealing to the eye at address, good feel, and tremendous distance control.  Give it a shot.

Agreed on the Tommy Armour. Don’t own one myself but have rolled one and it performs nicely.

Check out the Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft series of putters. The "regular" ones are about $130 brand new, and the "Premier" (basically the same as regular except they are a charcoal/darker finish with black shaft versus chrome shaft) are $160.

Used odyssey stroke lab 7 slant neck. 

 

Don't love the look or the feel. It's "meh" at best for me aesthetically. But it works. I'm putting great so it's still in the bag.

Agreed.  Huntington Beach line is the way to go.  I have five of them in different styles.

One of the most underrated putters imo is the Ping Craz-e. You can find those super cheap on the bay.

Odyssey white hot pro in your shape of choice. The 1 with the top line sight is hard to beat and the V-line is great for a mallet. The 7 and 2-ball are hard to find for affordable prices anymore.

Ugly as all get out, but highly effective, I have to admit.

 

But, ugliness is your friend when on a budget.

How about a new grip and a bunch of lead tape in the cavity? You would have essentially my Anser 2. At my last putter fitting( Hot Stix they couldn't find anything I rolled it better with.

Does anyone have any experience with the Tour Edge Pure Feel Template series?  Seems similar to the Cleveland HB line but there is no store near me that has any to try.

Go find a shape, weight, length, grip, material and toe hang you like and then go find something used or on close out online.  If you buy something used you can always resell at a minimal Or no loss.

One other option is to change your grip. A larger grip will take your hands out of the stroke may help with alignment and give you some confidence.  A smaller grip may give you more feel and help with your lag putting.  Don’t know what you have now so it is hard to say which way you should go.

Piles of sites with good options that aren't new retail pricing.  Shouldn't be hard to find an Odyssey tank cruiser or older spider for nothing.

I have about as thin a grip as you can have on the anser2 with the insert. I don’t know if that’s the problem but I do feel my grip being super uncomfortable, but honestly everything is uncomfortable right now for whatever reason. Just have zero feel for the putter right now so I can’t tell what the problem is.
