I like Pinehurst #2 as well, but can't help feeling it's a little overrated.  Like you said the USGA has tied the knot there, so the tourneys will happen.  There are worse places to hold an Open.

Pine hurst is getting the Open every five-six years going forward

On Sept. 9, 2020, the USGA announced Pinehurst is the first Anchor Site of the U.S. Open, with the championship returning to Pinehurst in 2024, 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047.

Agreed.

I have a residence card, so I only pay $64 for Torrey south. I still shudder paying that much. The course layout and difficulty is next to none. It just sits on the coast. To your point - technically yes, any man/woman/child can play; but at $240, it's a little non-inclusive...

Also...

REED! ?

Damn, Locals are paying $64?

When I lived there and worked at Scripps Green right there, I was paying $12.50.  That was 30 years ago....

Knowing the course conditions most of the time due to volume of play, I'd be hesitant to pay more than that $64.

Anybody else think scores should be better with these massive greens? 6,600 sq ft is absurd to me and these guys shouldn't be missing them imo

They are like miniature golf greens with a ton of undulation, with a lot of run off areas and they're firm and fast. Not receptive. Thursday was an anomaly as the greens were softer due to overnight rain.

They can hit the green from the fairway with a 7 iron and the ball may not stay on.. Throw in a stiff breeze and tall trees and it's a crap shoot pulling the correct club.

So what you are saying is that Rory should be able to play effectively, with a 3-wood?

As it relates to tee shots it means he can be more comfortable with the driver. The guys who have a more difficult time drawing it will use 3 wood because it's easier to turnover.

Have you played there? I've played Oakmont on multiple occasions and I understand they aren't quite as bad as Winged Foot but still they are massive. Seems like if you are decent putter should be fine. As long as you aren't hitting all your approach shots from the rough.

Is great seeing these guys look like weekend hacks sometimes ; )

Not exactly but makes you wonder just how hard they could make things for them if they wanted to.

I'll repeat this for the millionth time if the Tour or USGA wanted to they could set up most any course whereas no one breaks par. If they did that though no one would want to play golf. People generally want to see birdies and the long ball......carnage eveyr now and then is permitted though.......LOL!

If Bryson walks away with this thing it will be an official and sad paradigm shift for the modern game. To use a boxing analogy, the days of the artful and calculated out fighter will officially be replaced by the slugger.  It will be proven that golf is now a one size fits all pummel-fest

Listening to Dan Hicks slobber over WF (he's a member) is getting as painful as sitting next to a wine bore at a dinner party...we get it...WF is tough, and has tricky greens.  But stop acting like it's the only course on the planet that has severe, quick, breaking greens.

I'm beginning to feel like these people:

I thought it was only the scenes where Robert Hays seatmates start committing suicide...but I can't seem to be able to delete the link...enjoy the clips anyway.
