Broke my 2-iron; want to try something new

snapped the head right off today and had to make the 60y walk of shame to retrieve it at the range ?. i like the look and feel of my 3i better so it's really no big deal; i'll just use that for the time being.

anyway, i want to use this as an excuse to try something new. here was the 2i set-up: mizuno MMC hi-fli 16.5*; c-taper 130g

so should i get another 2i, a 5w, or a 2h?

thanks, and please let me know if you have any questions!

after digging into this a bit i think the best choice is to get one of each. i've never really been a club ho but i guess now is as good a time as any to start...

95% certain i'll pick up a wilson staff 2-iron.

keen to know what players with high swing speed would recommend for 5w's and 2h's.

If you liked results of the fli hi, but didn’t care for the feel, then why not move into something similar like a Mizuno Mp20 HMB 2 iron. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  It should be a good fit. It feels great, and similar in loft at 16° .

If you’re looking to make a change in a different direction, but not looking for a hybrid or wood, perhaps an Adams DHY or the new SIM dhy

I carry a 2 iron (T-MB) as well. Depending on the course, I will swap it out with an Adams super 9031 proto with a steel shaft in it. It’s the most iron like hybrid I’ve ever hit. You can buy the 9031 tour van heads from the ‘bay for $50

Check out Sub70 for a utility iron... (they also make hybrids and woods).

16.5 degree iron is tough, though... probably better to get into a hybrid just for the launch.

honestly, this may sound dumb but i just really like the way the wilson staff 2-iron looks. it's 18* so i'd have to bend it down, but otherwise i'm keen to try it out. i may try others down the line.

separately, i've decided i should have a 5w and 2h. best tools for the job, eh? i had no idea where to start but i'll take a look at those super proto heads on the 'bay. thank you for the suggestions!!

thanks, i will definitely check out sub70!

launch was good with that club for me. about 230y carry at sea level with a 45* descent angle and enough spin to hold greens. but also easy enough to hit low bullets that would run for days. difficult to hit off the planet with miss hits; they were directionally good, just shorter.

here's why i've decided to also get a hybrid: performance-wise the 2-iron was useless out of moderately thick rough unless the ball was sitting up. now that i'm at altitude and there are much longer par 5's i want a club i can pound out of thicker rough.

I think getting a hybrid makes a ton of sense... Definitely worth a shot. Plenty of good options out there, and plenty of old good options out there... I'm still gaming an old Adams hybrid and I don't really have any plans to replace it.
