Sei Young Kim and Nasa Hataoka are now out also but I think Gaby Ruffles got added, don't remember her on the list before great opportunity for her also to maybe sneak out that coveted tour membership especially with all these legit contenders leaving the event.

Naah, Gaby has been on the tee time list.....hope she stays if Mother Nature cooperates for a minute. PS:  Looking forward to working the KPMG at Aronimink in a couple weeks. Will She wreak havoc there?

The course is playing over par thus far today.

The driving distance is way down from normal, the course must be wet!

Or, dust particles and high humidity in the air affecting the flight of the ball?   Where's our golfwrx forum in house forecaster and what does he have to say?

It is currently raining in Portland area ... or so current time weather reports indicate.  The forecast calls for more rain this afternoon, upwards of 5 mm in the afternoon and 60% chance of more rain this evening between 1-3 mm -- also a warning of possible thunderstorms too ... clearing up for Saturday.  So yes, the course will be playing wet/damp.  And the air is much denser with increased humidity so the ball won't typically travel like it did in the drier Palm Springs air.

Good news is that the precipitation has cleaned the air rather well ... the Air Quality Advisory looks like it will be lifted at noon (without being renewed ... but who knows, 2020 has been the year beyond belief at times).  Actually @mallrat being local will be able to have a much better picture of the weather.

First we got over a .5” of rain last night which I’m sure made things a little wet. Then add in the weather from the fires has trapped in humidity for over a week. We haven’t put any water down on our course in a week and a half and it is still much wetter than we would like it.

The other thing, especially for those not familiar with golf around the PNW, is you will not find anywhere where you get less carry, sea level, and generally lower humidity. The ball just doesn’t carry here, especially this time of year.

Yeah, I'm in the PNW too ...mind on the Canadian side, but the weather from Portland up to Vancouver is so very similar.  You're spot on about the ball doesn't travel very far because of these factors that you mentioned.  But it is one of the most beautiful spots around!

Ball doesn't travel well in the PNW. It plays like Harding Park in the Bay area.  At least on the west side of Oregon/Washington. Eastern Washington is dry hot desert. Ball goes pretty well even at only 300ft elevation.

edit: I see a couple people beat me to it

Sigh, if the data is right, then Bianca is driving 288 yards off the tee so she knows how to drive the ball even in these conditions (she did play for Gonzaga for 2 yrs so she knows the weather there)... unfortunately, she isn't consummating bec of poor wedge/iron play again... and she's dead last in sand saves statistic in the LPGA after today... oh well, lots of golf to go...

Spokane(where Gonzaga is) is a bit different. It's in NE Washington. It's forrested unlike the desert here south of Spokane, but it's still fairly dry, much warmer in summer than Portland/Seattle side and a bit more elevation. The ball would still travel better there than the true West side of the PNW

i was about to say how the weather delay might have impacted the already wet and humid course... scrap that, seems like it initially impacted quite a few players but most have adjusted... eg hannah green back to her birdie ways, minjee lee, bianca finally birdied a par 5 LOL...

That sure looked like fun. Lol. Interesting leaderboard. Can Yealimi grab the win she let out of her grasp last year? That would be a heck of a bounce back.

'Hope they get a little better weather over the weekend. Tomorrow looks iffy, but Sunday should be gorgeous.

My biggest surprise is Minjee's over par round; what's happening?

Do you have any insights?

Sure do, and Argonne eluded to it in other threads and something I've seen from Brooke early on in her career.  I think it's just something as simple as Minjee needs a break, she's been to every event since the restart.  It's also like the start of a season and you still need to pace yourself and I just think she might be running out of gas, probably bit a little too much even though some breaks are coming up and almost a month between events in Oct. and Nov.

Minjee is from Australia, she's out of loop for 5 months during the pandemic break.  It's a no brainer that she plays every tournament when she's out of Australia traveling.

She's T7,  T28, 3rd,  T16, 4th and 3rd since the restart; everything seems fine.

Could it be that she expensed too much energy at ANA and hit a wall this week?  It could be the same reason why Brooke, Lexi, Nelly, Nasa and Sei Young opted out.

Definitely, it comes like hitting a wall and manifests itself on the mental side and hits your execution, this week Minjee has 30 and 33 putts with 12/18 and 13/18, very un-Minjee like with the putts especially with only hitting that many greens in reg.  You're also correct with the mental grind of competing for a Major and the heat last week probably also didn't do many favors.
