How far do you hit your driving iron, REALLY?

In my prime, I use to hit my Ping ISI 1 iron 260 total.  Played many of rounds without woods since that was enough distance for 6500 yard tracks that I use to play.

Currently playing the U510. (absolute rocket launcher) When hit well, out the middle it will roll out to 250ish. But, mishits go about 220ish to 230. So on average I'd say about 240. I've hit a few that have rolled out to 270 on absolute perfect conditions (I think it happened maybe twice) and some high cutty spinners that only go 210. Nature of the beast. I think ill just stick with my trusty 5 wood.

My driver is 250 yd, so I don't carry a wood anymore.

Mizuno MP18 2-iron w/PX 6.5 goes around 245 for me.  Not long, but in the fairway consistently.  I use it on a couple of shorter par 4's (380) with doglegs and steep fairway slope, where being in position and hitting PW is much better than hitting driver into the fairway and rolling into trees, guaranteeing a bogey

I have a srixon zx 3i 20° with a Ventus black 10tx and I carry it in that 250 average range so total yard average in that 265-270 range

I bought a driving hybrid, similar to a sim dhy, and it's about the same as your 4 iron probably around 205, might get to 220 on a great hit. I bought it for into the wind shots where driver could be eaten by wind.

Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 3 iron (19*) w/ Speeder 85S HB shaft. Probably between 220-230 carry, 230-240ish total (depending on the firmness of the fairway).

T200 Utility build 3 iron w/ Diamana Thump. Carries 235-240, I can tee it just slightly and flatten it out downwind and it will go a ways, but it's still playable into a green.

I have a u510 4 utility I carry around 215 off the deck. It fits well between my 5 iron and 5 wood. From the tee maybe squeeze 230ish out of it.

Playing a 20* Srixon ZU85 with an X-flex Atmos TS Blue - carry at elevation is ~265yds from a tee.  Sounds crisp and flies forever.

I purchased a titleist u510 1 iron. I launch 250-270 yard straight missiles with it off the tee consistently. Not as far as driver but a much better fairway finder. I’ll sacrifice 50 yards of distance if it leads to less lost balls and way more fun. Best club in my bag by far💪

Game a Nike Vapor Speed 19 degree 3 iron with a LAGP hybrid shaft. Finally got on the Trackman yesterday and I was carrying 235-250 consistently off the matt. I typically tee it up so I'd guess I'm +/- 245 carry. 

 

I had an x100 in the 3 iron before the LAGP and I would carry that around 225, so it appears the hybrid shaft is doing its job.

I’m one of the lucky few who has always been long. I hit my old Nike 2iron hybrid 250-270 I’m 67 & an assistant professional in Pennsylvania. I love irons and use to carry 1-9 Mizuno blades. However when the hybrids came out I had to learn about them and how to hit them. I believe they are the best thing to happen to high handicappers who had trouble with long irons & fairway woods. Once they learn how to use them not only as a driving iron but throughout the course they are very handy club to have in your bag.
