Putter sets up closed at address, anyway of correcting this?

I have a Bettinardi putter that sets up a little closed at address, and outside of that I love the putter. I just hate having to force the putter square as I set up. Has anyone been able to fix this in the past? Just curious with either bending the shaft or the loft and lie. I’m down to try anything.

What model is the putter? Does it setup closed on a green or just your putting mat? I had a putter I could’ve swore setup open inside on my putting mat but as soon as I got it on the putting green It was square.

I believe it could be a loft/lie issue. I've had putters in the past that had too much loft, so when soled they rotated forward and closed.

Get the loft and lie checked, it could also be a visual thing with how you see the putter itself.

Agree with loft and  lie check.  I had the same issue last season and it turned out I had more loft than needed.

I 100% agree on the loft being the key culprit.  If it is a plumbers neck or flow neck, adjustment should be straight forward. 

If the putter uses a single- or double-bend shaft, it can be a bit more work.  NOT hard work, just that the problem might be more easily solved by rotating the shaft, more than bending the stub at the head.  I've seen more than my share of Betti's with a broken stub from just this type of adjustment.  Find a guy who is skilled and you should be fine.

Similar to previous comments, could be the lie angle you are setting up at and depending on the putter, the sole could promote the face to close. Could be a combination of a few things.

Have you had it regripped? If so the grip may not be perpendicular to the face causing it to be closed. If not, my next guess would be with the majority of posters in loft/lie corrections.

Could be length or lie.  I have an INOVAI putter.  When I tested them, I tried a 35" and 34", but when I went to a 33" it sat square.  Hands sitting too low for various reasons could shut the face.

A little bit of a forward press technique at address will naturally change a closed putter face to a square face.

When ever I regrip putters I use two small bubble levels.  One rubber banded flush to the putter face and one on the grip so I can make sure both stay true or I can adjust the grip until it’s true to the face.
