Putter Mery Go Round...who else is on it?

Recommended Posts

I'm struggling to find a putter I love.  For the longest time, I've been such a die hard one piece, milled putter kind of guy.  Bounced around from custom blade raw carbon, to OEM with stability tour shaft, off the rack blade (getting too wrapped up in feel) and now am seriously considering a putter with a little technology.  Recently had a Las Vegas and really enjoyed it, but sold it for a custom putter project that I just had to have.

Yesterday I rolled a couple of putters that really opened my eyes.  Odyssey stoke lab black 7 and Spider X.  It took me a few minutes to adjust to the feel, but once I adjusted it made me really contemplate digging deeper into one with this style of insert and forgiveness.

Curious to hear anyone else's experiences with this and what have you moved into.  Starting to drive myself crazy with all of these putters and still not getting comfortable on the greens addressing the ball.

Appreciate the dialogue!

I think many people go through this, when I got back into golf I decided a face balanced mallet was what I needed because of the forgiveness and it was but I was still putting awfully, how could this be I was using a forgiving putter? So decided to try a blade cause how much worse could my putting get. But surprise, surprise I was better with a blade, how could this be?

This is when I started to do some research and testing at home with some simple stuff and found out that it wasn't the head shape it was the neck and for me I need some toe hang to putt better. So I would and will putt better with a blade that has toe hang than any face balance mallet with crazy high MOI.

Does this mean I've written off mallets? No but being a lefty wanting a mallet with toe hang basically means custom only. So I'm kinda in that group of golfers who want mallet putters with more neck options because people want toe hang.

Now I just ho various putters because I can't control myself.

Yes....went through a ton of putters.  Then found the Odyssey 7 which suited me.  Went from the HWY 101 #7 face balanced (1 year), EXO 7s(1 year), Stroke Lab 7s (1 year), this year started and stuck to the Toulon Las Vegas H7 (Odyssey 7 shape) with stroke lab.   I cant see changing next year....unless...…...

I’ve been through a fitting process multiple times.  One thing I know is I need some toe hang.  I agree with you @MattM97about neck configuration.

I did have the Las Vegas h7 that I sold about a month ago and really liked it, but was not in love.  I probably needed to play around with weight, but did not want to purchase the weight kit.

What I really need to do is get a clean up putting lesson.  Could be my alignment, how far from the ball I’m standing, etc.  Who knows...

Fellow milled blade and Cushman guy here. I was having all sorts of issues with my roll earlier this year and last week swapped out the TT shaft on my Cushman for a CT Tour and maybe it is the shiny penny effect, but I have never been more confident with a putter. Who knows? (I see you already have a CT Tour on yours, so there goes that idea.)

Also, I have been playing around with the idea of picking up a slant or flow neck mallet and keep telling myself I just need to stick to what I have. That being said, if you find yourself unloading another that matches the description let me know.

Take your own advice though and get an extra set of eyes on the situation in a putting lesson, if nothing else it could help put your mind at ease a little.
