Walkers with Carry Bags, do you carry all 14 clubs?

Recommended Posts

I got a Jones bag this year, and I love it.  I want to start walking with it, but it is a little too heavy to walk 18 holes, with all 14 clubs, even with all of the non-essentials taken out.

For those that walk and carry, do you carry all 14 clubs, or do you trim down the set?  If you trim down, what do you usually carry?

(I know, if I have to ask, maybe I should just get a push cart...... ?)

Thanks guys,

All clubs, two towels (one for the clubs, one for grips) and everything else normally in the bag, which is a stand carry bag but not a lightweight model.

A nephrologist i play with is 74 and carries a Hoofer-14 with 14 clubs as well.

I use a Jones and carry all 14 clubs. I'm a little more choosy about what goes in the carry bag than when I push. 14 clubs, towel, 6 balls, tees, and a thermos of coffee or water. I'd say the thermos is the heaviest non essential item.

EDIT: I noticed that I have a Jones stand bag in my signature. When I say I carry with the Jones I have 2 other Jones Original bags that I use.

I have carried my bag for several years now and always 14 clubs.

To be honest i find it harder to push a cart than carry a bag, physically speaking. But our club does not have the most advanced 3-wheel carts.

I would rather carry than push in terms of effort.

I'm on my 4th season of carrying full time, having used a Stitch SL1 and various Jones bags, carrying all 14 clubs every time. I can't imagine taking one out and it would drive me made to try to figure out which club to remove, and even further mad if I needed said club during the round. It might take a while but you get used to it, and like Jeff said above I feel carrying is far easier on the legs at times, depending on the terrain your course has. It's much easier to carry a bag up a hill on your shoulder than to get behind and underneath it with a push cart IMO.

I have a mizuno sunday carry bag and I carry all 14 clubs. I dont think the weight savings would be worth it. I just prepare for the weather as I dont carry anything else but balls and tees in the bag.

If it's a hilly course on a hot day I might swap out my AP2s for my MP15s. In bag my MP15s weigh significantly less so if its going to be a long day i'll play with them instead.

I walk all the time and carry 12 clubs and orange whip ( iron length )

Figure Jones stand bag weighs about 6 pounds

Clubs and whip maybe 14 pounds

balls and a stainless liter water bottle maybe another 5 pounds

maybe 25 pounds total not really a big deal

I am in South Florida so no hills but it is hot-you get used to it

Ive been playing with a jones carry bag for the last 6 months or so after playing with a push cart for the last couple of years.  I sling the bag over my left shoulder and have it wrap behind me.  Once I am able to counter balance the bottom of my bag with my right hand, the weight disappears.  I carry all my clubs and toss my water in someone elses cart.

When I have the opportunity I walk. I have a Ping Moonlite that'll fit all 14, a metal water bottle, balls, tees, towel and wallet. I have a Hoofer and a Jones (no stand). I've always liked the Ping Sunday bags. I think I've had every iteration. I'd like to up my game with a Mackenzie. Thought about taking out some clubs the other day, but I also thought of adding some. I've got so many I've never played...

When I walk, which isn’t as often as I should, I generally carry seven clubs...set makeup varies day-to-day.  I enjoy trying to make things happen with the tools of the day, rather than obsessing about having the right club for every shot.  (Went out earlier this spring with four clubs in hand, no bag, and shot my best nine hole walking score of the season.)  For me, carrying a light half bag is more comfortable than pushing a full bag. Carrying a full set is out of the question, no matter how light the sack is.  Back just can’t  handle it.

I am in the process of making a walking bag which will consists of the following clubs and a stand bag.  All graphite shafted except the SW and putter so it should be pretty light carry!

Driver

3wd

3H

5 iron

7 iron

9 iron

GW (50 deg)

SW (57 deg)

Putter

I played this exact setup the last time out but was riding with a friend and shot one of the best rounds of the year!  ?

I carry without woods only on mostly par 3 courses.  Full length courses I used to carry, but after getting a push cart maybe 15 years ago found it's so much easier on the back, neck, and legs.  Definitely pull uphill, push otherwise.  Pushing uphill can feel like more effort than carrying.

I walk 95% of the time and always have at least 14 clubs. Plus whatever additional clubs I brought to test or to make the other clubs in the bag feel nervous about their place in the lineup.

Usually carry all 14 in my Jones.  If I'm playing a certain course where I know I'm unlikely to have to hit anything longer than 180 off the grass, I remove the fairways and hybrids and long irons.

I know a guy who regularly walks and plays with 8 clubs.  He  carries only even numbered irons.  He says that most greens at his club are three clubs deep, so he can always adjust his swing on his approach shots.  He claims it's made him a better player both in terms of strategy and ball striking.

If I play a par 3 course, I trim down the bag.

I'll usually take 5i-9i, PW and SW, putter and my driver ?.

(The long driver shaft serves as a handle so I can balance the bag as I walk.)

Yup, '19 Hoofer with 14 clubs, umbrella, towel, short sleeve rain shirt, 70 ounces of water, and probably way too many golf balls. Lol. I really need to take a few out. I put the loaded bag on a scale a few weeks back and it was 31 lbs. The water is close to 6 lbs, so I'm carrying 25 lbs by the end of the round. Been carrying it since June 1st, and have played 63 rounds in that timeframe.

When I walk, I carry 14 clubs in my Sun Mountain 2.5 bag. What I trim down is the "extras". Unless the track is really tight, I carry no more than 6 balls, with one of those in play, and one in my pocket. I carry one spare glove, leave maybe a few tees and a ball marker or two in the bag besides what's in my pockets. My GPS goes in my pocket, and I skip the laser rangefinder. The only other things that go in my bag are my wallet, car keys, energy bars or bananas, and a water bottle.

My wife chooses to take out a few clubs when she walks. She'll usually carry driver, 7 wd, 4h, 6h, 8i, PW, and either SW or LW.

I walk 95% of my rounds with an older Ping 4 series with 4 dividers. 8-14 clubs depending on what kind of round I’m playing. 32-52 ounces of water, two towels, a light jacket, rangefinder, about 12 balls and 2 granola bars. Taking the time to balance everything on the straps helps. The better my hydration the easier it seems to be too.
