Best Non-Golf-Specific Smart/Fitness Watch?

I currently have a Garmin Vivoactive 4. As an overall smart/fitness watch, I'm pretty happy with it, but I've found that the Golf GPS is far from accurate (sometimes 10+ yards off the proper distance). 

Anyone out there using any non-golf wearables that they find do a really good job of tracking distances?

I have the exact same question.  Have been looking at universal options and haven't found much feedback. Good to know on the Vivo 4!

I'm using the Apple Watch 5 + GolfShot Pro. Pretty happy with that setup, suits my needs.

I use the grint and swing U apps. I think both are compatible with an apple watch.

I had tried a Garmin Approach S60 and it was great for golf, but it was below par for running imo.  I ended up going with a ForeRunner 245 for running and decided against a watch for golf.  Currently using the Bushnell Phantom for golf and find it to be very accurate.

I've borrowed a friend's Garmin Approach S20 and it has been great. I'm liking how simple it is and the ability to just turn the wrist and get a number. Accuracy has been good and coming from using only yardage markers since I started playing golf, it has helped me focus in more on each shot. It's a strong contender, but I'd love something universal that I can use for trail runs/hikes.

Following as well. Have been using my VivoActive3 for several years now and have found it incredibly versatile. It's my everyday watch and I use it more often working out (biking and running) multiple times a week than the weekend round of golf. I've not found any distance issues when golfing, verified using my range finder along with it. But every once in a while I have issues working out where it seems to lose the GPS signal and my pace numbers are way off. And frequently the bluetooth between my watch and phone drops off and I have to reset it. Nothing terrible but just a little nuisance that has me wondering if/when it might crap out on me and what to look out for next.
