Changing putter head weights

Does anyone know what the effect of putting a heavier weight into just the toe of a putter would do? I have picked up an M-craft II putter and want to know how changing weights should affect my stroke.
It comes fitted with 8g weights in both the heel and the toe so was just wondering what it would do if I placed the heavier 13g weight on just one side.

I know it's probably not the answer you're looking for but really the only way to tell is to give it a try and see what happens.  How people's swing reacts to changes in feel from the club is just too subjective to accurately generalize.

I tried that once thinking I'd make my face-balanced putter a toe hang putter.  It was terrible for me.  Then it dawned on me that I didn't just make it toe hang, I changed the center of gravity so that the center of the putter face was no longer in line with the center of gravity of the head.  For me it was a failed experiment, but it didn't cost me anything other than a bunch of missed putts!

I played around with weights on a Newport 2 (Similar head shape) in an effort to hit a specific swingweight at a specific length and was in between weights. I tried using a 10g and 15g in both orientations and I didn't think it would affect the feel but in reality something just didn't feel right to me.

I don't know if it was just in my head because of the asymmetry or if there really was more to it but I ended up just going with two 15s.

I'd recommend giving it a try in both orientations (heavier in the toe and heel) and just see what you think.

Can't speak to your case, but in the OP's case, adding only 5 gm to the toe is going to move the c.g.'s maybe 1 mm.

I'll admit that I'm a lousy putter, Stuart, but I was even worse with the unbalanced putter.  It could be that the fellow wielding the flatstick might be unbalanced as well . . .

I don't doubt it felt unbalanced.  I wasn't really arguing the results or that the added weight wasn't the problem.  Just maybe your specific reasoning for why the weight caused a problem.  It's certainly going to change the feel of how the face rotates even if the c.g. doesn't move much, and that change in feel can be enough to screw someone up - even more than normal ?

I'm going through something similar with the Mizuno M-craft IV that I just picked up.  I started messing around with the included weight kit, tried something a little different.  I put the 13g weight in the heel and the 3g weight in the toe.   My impression is that I can feel the toe flow in the stroke better and somehow it seems to help me square the face at impact more consistently and hit the sweet spot more consistently.   This has only been at home so far putting about 10ft on a practice mat.  I'm concerned what it will feel like for longer putts, and will have to get back out to the course soon to find out.

Anyone have any thoughts on if this is good or bad?
