At What Age Did You Start To Lose Distance?

These are ballpark average total distance based on sketchy memory. I hit some much further, but also some shorter, typically due to course and weather conditions.

20's (persimmon & early metalwoods) 280.

30's 280

40's 250

50's 260

58  260

I plan to try to do some work over the winter to get in better shape. I'm 5'11" and 240 now (pudgy & solid) with bad knees and hips which cause my swing to vary a good bit from day to day. Surgery is in the plan for the near future.

35 years ago the average tour distance was around 260 and y'all were out driving them ??

 

 At age 68 - 6'1"  185 lbs ( same as high school 1969 )

    I have the same distances 230 average carry driver ( nike ignite- Fujikura stiff 13 degree)

        7 iron 150 - Cobra f8 OL Nippon 105 regular

 

       In 1969 school had Macgregor persimmon driver and well used 65/66 Haig ultra irons

 

  Did not play at all from 1984 until I retired in 2018

And now, at 67-years-old, I find a big drop-off.  Driver, 210, 7 iron 140.  All my irons are 1 club shorter than 2-3 years ago.  My 2 hybrid went from 200 to 180.  But still keeping a 15 handicap.

 

I work out to keep in shape, my core is in great shape as are my legs and upper torso.  Regular massage to keep flexible.  But the distance drop-off is frustrating.

 

So, my senior golfing compatriots, when did you notice the drop-off and what did you do, if anything, to manage it?

 

I am 65 and moved up to the senior tees this year. That makes up for the loss in distance. I keep in shape, walk 99% of my rounds, but I realize I am no spring chicken either, lol.
