Best feeling/softest irons

I will also add the Srixon z785s here. Just phenomenal feeling in those sticks. Combo those with the Z585s and I would put them up against any non blade set out there for performance and feel.

I'm not a lefty, so I have not tried the 801 or the SEL, but I have tried their counterparts. My impressions are below, with ranks for "softest" (1 being the softest) in brackets.

Miura 801 (301) - Very solid feeling, but not "soft." Great feel.  [3]

Mizuno MP20 sel (Standard MP20) - Great club. More solid than soft. [4]

Mizuno 921 sel (tour)(Standard 921) - I didn't like it. Not soft nor solid. Too clicky for my feel. [6]

PXG 0311 T (gen 3) - The softest, by far. But, it's a very different type of soft than expected. [1]

Titleist 620 CB - Great feel and the most traditional "soft" feel. [2]

Titleist T-100 - Not a fan. More clicky than expected. [5]

If you are looking for a traditional soft feel, I'd go with the 620 CB's. If you are looking for the softest feel out there, it'd be the PXG 0311 T's.

Hey guys, I’m going to be making an iron switch this year. I’m a lefty, so keep that in mind. I live in the middle of nowhere and I don’t have access to test a lot of clubs, so I’m hoping you guys can share your experiences with me. Which of the following irons are the softest/best-feeling?

Miura 801

Mizuno MP20 sel

Mizuno 921 sel (tour)

PXG 0311 T (gen 3)

Titleist 620 CB

Titleist T-100

Feel free to order them from softest to firmest, below. My assumption is they would rank as I have them listed above.

I am a lefty. I recently got a CC fitting and hit all of these except the 921. Softest was mp20 SEL. Miura was equally great but I only hit the sweet spot 1 out of 4 or 5 swings. Then I would say 620, PXG, T100. Also hit callaway apex blades and that was closer to 620. Ended up buying mp20 SEL.

Shaft also makes a huge difference.

For me it's PXG 0311P Gen 3 and nothing else is even close. I've had plenty of Miura and other premium forgings but nothing feels as soft to me as the 0311P Gen 3.

+1 for Wilson Staff. Very good woods and hybrids too.

I can't speak for all but you'd be hard pressed to find a better feeling set of irons than the Wilson Staff MB's. Best feeling irons I've played in 30 years.

My previous set of irons (until this summer) were the Cobra King Forged Tour and they were by far the softest irons I have ever hit. Ball melted into the face when struck like you're supposed to. Its a shame they had seen their better days and it was time to upgrade.

did you try to the "t's" when you bought the "p's"? If I went the PXG route, I would likely get the "p's" for 4 and possibly 5 iron, but go to the "t's" the rest of the way.

Ok so the best answer i can give you is the mizuno mp mmc 20. Ive hit alot of irons this past year all head to head... nothing and i mean nothing was softer to me then the mp mmc20. From 4 iron down to pw and thats rate in my opinion to have each iron be consistently the same amount of soft throughout the set. Not just soft but a soft thats different then the rest and still very informative on what you put into the shot.

Yep this is spot on. MMC are lovely

Another set to consider is Wilson Staff Model blades. Tried everything, except the Miuras, at a golf expo in February and the Wilsons felt the best to me.

Or the D7 forged, when you hit them good they sound amazing and you dont feel a thing.  I've had more comments in a month about how those sound than I've had the rest of my life about any club sound lol.

Not the person you asked, but I demo'd the P's and T's and the P's were just way too hot for me. Given the size and loft differences, I think it would be very difficult to blend the P's and T's without some serious tinkering. The T's have more than enough juice and forgiveness in the long irons that, IMO, the P's don't need to be considered. For reference, I'm a 6-ish cap and iron play is the best part of my game.

This is awesome! I’ve been wondering about this. That is my approximate handicap as well so that is helpful. Thank you.

Do you have any comparisons as to feel? I’ve heard they are the best feeling club many have hit but feel is so relative. My preference is for softer. I’m just having trouble blending my preferred look with my preferred shape. For instance, my preferred shape is the Titleist T-100 from the top view because I like a smaller head with a shorter blade length but I’ve played Titleist 714s and 718s and found them both slightly “clicky”.

MacGregor 1025C's V-Foil's  are the best, softest irons I have ever hit. I've hit a number of Mizunos, number of other forged offerings, and the 1025s are just pure perfection in my opinion.

If you like the smaller head and want that feel, might want to consider the new Srixon Z7 that will be out in January time frame.   I've been playing different combinations  of 565/765 and 585/785 for a couple three years now. They're great in their own right, and the new Z5/Z7 follow suit. What stood out to me was again how similarly they look from the top which makes the blending easy, but I felt like the Z7 appeared to be a smaller head than previously.

I will take a look at them. I've heard nothing but positive things about them and have hit them (right handed) a few times. The main thing I don't like is that they have a longer blade length. I know it is completely a mental thing but the longer the blade length, the more my strike pattern moves around. The shorter the blade length, the more compact my strike pattern.

I am just not familiar with all the newest sets, but from what I have played, a forged iron head, devoid of other materials, is going to provide the most "pure" feedback. Tungsten is very dense, for example, and changes the way the head will feel, despite efforts to "un-engineer" the denser feel in other ways.

Same goes for any other material added/used to change flight characteristics or feel. A simple forging will most likely feel the most "pure" and give the most feedback. I sacrifice some of that "feel" for some forgiveness. But I still prefer a forging, or forged materials.

Broken record, but you have to hit them all and see for yourself. This is a common question, and a good one for opinions if that your ultimate goal, but at the end of the days it turns into a Ford vs Chevy conversation if you will.

All that crap above said- Miura hands down. If you're a ball striker you'll find that nothing feels as good.

I'm also a lefty.  I've never hit Miura's.  I've played 2 sets of PXG, Mizuno, Callaway, Titleist and Taylormade but my choice for softness is Srixon without a doubt.  They are very forgiving with a fantastic feel.  Try them, you will be surprised. Depending on your handicap I highly suggest the Z785 and the Z585.  The lofts are a little stronger than most so it's take getting used to them.  Or bend them weaker.
