I'm going to go on record as saying that those high stability putter shafts are gimmicky. I'm not anti-technology or anything, I just think that it's a stretch to say they have any measurable difference.

Totally agree. I mean c'mon, the shaft doesn't flex, no kick point, all it does is connect to the putter head.

I agree.  I can see some benefits of Stroke Lab and managing weighting....but at the speed a putter is stroked, I don’t see graphite as any performance or accuracy advantage.

Didn't UST/Mamiya in the early-mid 2000's try the same thing with their Frequency Filtered Composite putter shaft that went away not long after it was introduced?

The BGT does perform differently than a steel shaft though. They are super stiff and the feedback on impact is significantly firmer. Whether it is worth the cost is up to the individual. Whether there is a performance gain or not is debatable.

Consumers of golf equipment will buy just about anything new and different.

Putter shafts matter.  Doesn’t mean graphite is better.  But they do feel different.     I prefer the head speed stepped shaft .... I actually have a fluted one for a 370 over hosel that is really hard to find.  Can’t imagine not using it.   It has a kick that you can feel through the ball on lag putts.

Every time I roll a Scotty Newport at my shop, I think wow that feels good/soft. I kept thinking that the steel can’t be that much softer than stee in the other putters I try, so I kept testing it versus others. I am convinced that Scotty uses a softer shaft? It’s almost like I feel it load and impact is so much better. Is this his secret?

I do believe that is one of the components, yes. The shaft I believe is a version of the old Wilson Headspeed shaft which was known for being fairly soft, especially by modern, more heavy-headed putter standards.

If it’s one of the insert style scotties with the double sided tape that really makes them feel soft too

I'll gladly concede that the feel is different and so much of putting is in the feel. But $250 for a little different feel seems a little like snake oil. And before anybody says anything, I'm not telling you how to spend your money, fill your boots on whatever you want. I just look at these shafts and see a salesman that's a little more cunning than his audience.

I think there is a difference. Is that difference measurable in the terms of performance in actual made putts? That is hard or even impossible to say. They for sure have a different feel..

Maybe I should try it. I would say that my game closely resembles Na’s from what I saw at the Valero some years back.

Actual performance difference has to be almost impossible to tell, unless you put it on a mechanical arm and test it with 1,000 rolls.  I purchased mine out of boredom.  I still play it.  If anyone asked if I recommend they buy it, I would just reply with "It's literally setting that money on fire, but you aren't left with ashes."

haha. I don't think its that bad. There is some serious bag swag to it. But yeah. I am not ready to drop that kinda money on a putter shaft. Driver shaft though... lets just not go there...

Absolutely but the feel can be different for different folks. In my Santa Fe I have a old fluted Bulls Eye shaft. For me it woke it up. But then again last week I benched the Scotty and started back putting with an old stock Macgregor Ironmaster CB-5 ( and yes it is beat to hell and rusty lead taped too) and putted lights out with it on Saturday. Goes to show what I know

Many a putter went back because of this. Childish, I know, but you just can’t bring a unique/ugly putter out and miss any short putts. Brutal.
