Mizuno - Recoil 95 vs 950GH Neo

Pondering the JPX 921 Hot Metals and wonder how different the Recoil 95 will play from the 950GH Neo.  Have never played graphite in irons but getting a little older and would like something a little easier on the body without losing control.  Also the swing speed isn’t what it once was - I’d say moderate at best.  Thanks!

I haven’t played the 950GH Neo, but I assume they are similar to the standard 950GH.  I am currently playing the standard 950GH stiff in a set of PXG’s, and I have Recoil 95 F4 (stiff) in a set of 919 Forged.  Performance-wise, I find them very similar.  Nice and smooth, with high launch, but not ballooning for me.

I actually just posted in the elbow pain thread that unfortunately, even with prosoft inserts in them, I am still getting some elbow pain with the 950’s.  So, from a wear and tear standpoint, I think the Recoil 95 would be superior.  If I could easily and cheaply swap shafts (which I can’t), I would definitely pop some Recoil 95s into the PXG’s, and many of my other sets with steel shafts.

Bottom line, you should be able to find a good fit with the Recoil 95 F3 or F4, with soft-stepping or hard-stepping if necessary.  I also have a set of irons with the Steelfiber 95, and I find the Recoil 95 to be a bit smoother (Recoil stiff compared to the SF regular).  YMMV.

I would agree that the Steelfibers 95 play stiffer to flex and when fit I was fit for R Steelfibers 95 (hard stepped) and S Recoils 95 F4.

I never played the recoils and never hit them on grass and if smoother is the feel, I may go that route next time.  I don't feel my Steelfibers are stout or harsh but smoother is better IMO. If there is no performance loss and only feel....

Thanks for the info - definitely want to go graphite to be easier on the body.  Torn between the Recoil ESX 460 and Recoil 95 as graphite offerings....

The Neo has a stiffer mid section to allow a more flexible tip for more spin. A lot of these bigger heads and stronger lofts don't spin much, therefore the Neo.

OP, check out UST Mamiya's site for specs. on the 2 shafts you are looking at to help with your decision.
