GHIN to Grint

Recommended Posts

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I've been trying to figure out how to create a GHIN that ties to The Grint. I've seen the screenshot image where the app prompts you to create a GHIN, but I was never presented with that screen. Do you know how to get to that screen as an existing Pro user?

I know that Grint will post automatically to GHIN, but can the reverse work?  ...can GHIN postings automatically or manually go to your Grint account?

In short, no.  You will see the score show up, but I don't think the stats do.

Can you even access your scores on GHIN if you're using Grint ?

Have they "fixed" that ?

You can - I post everything to Grint and have it synced with GHIN. I don't have to do anything with GHIN, everything works well.

So then if you go to GHIN.COM you can enter your GHIN number (from the Grint) and see your scoring history ?

Can you also enter a score via GHIN ?

Yes and yes. The stats from Grint to GHIN don't translate, but you can enter either via the Grint or GHIN and the net result is the same. I don't really ever enter directly in GHIN but there's no reason why one couldn't.

So then you've actually been able to look up your record on GHIN.COM using your name and GHIN number ? That's good to hear.

Previously GHIN.COM would NOT even acknowledge a GRINT GHIN number on its site and therefore, of course, a GRINT user couldn't post on, or even look up his record on, GHIN)

Glad they got that straightened out.

I have a pro account with Grint.   I cannot look up any information on GHIN.com.   This is what I get each time:

Ahhh. To clarify - I got a GHIN number first through my state’s golf association, the “normal” process. I do not have a Grint pro account or GHIN through them, though I was planning on doing that next year. However, linking my GHIN to Grint has been seamless so far.

@DennyJones, looks like the key difference in this working is whether or not you pay for your GHIN through Grint or outside of it? That’s a bummer, I was gonna go Grint pro and do my handicap through them next year but if the above is true, I won’t be doing that.

Just a related question. Once you pay for Grint Premium and get your GHIN/handicap through the app, do you no longer have to pay for your state golf association fees? If this is true, I wonder why the state association would allow that, since that would decrease revenues for them. Anyone know what kind of deal The Grint has with each state association to allow them to do this?

I have a similar question...

Belong to, and have a GHIN handicap through, my local course. I use Grint mainly for stats but would like to link the two. Problem is for tournaments, the club posts my score to GHIN which means that if I want to use Grint for the same round I must mark it has "practice" or it will duplicate the posting.

Anyone have any workarounds for such a situation? Allowing GHIN to write scores into Grint and then make the stats editable would work and probably be preferred but I don't see that happening.

I had the same issue with my league. I just told my league admin that I was already posting my scores, he just captured the scores but disabled the GHIN sync with whatever software he was using.

Do you pay for your GHIN through you're local golf association and also pay for the handicap feature in The Grint? Just want to know if you have to pay twice.

Nope, I don't pay for Grint but pay for handicap through my local league.

I'll be following if the GHIN login thing gets fixed for next season though. I would love to get my handicap through Grint and get the pro features, but if I can't log into GHIN then I don't think it's worth it. The free Grint app seems to have about 80-90% of the stats the pro version has though, so I'm not super worried about it.

You would not pay twice.   If you get your USGA handicap thru TheGrint, it's official and you have a legit handicap.   What you don't have is access to GHIN.com although somebody that is running a tournament can look up your official handicap.

Let me see if I've got this right.

One can EITHER pay GHIN (via an association) or GRINT (PRO).

If you PAY GHIN (through your local club/association - which may be your local golf course) you get a GHIN # and you can use the GHIN website (or app). How the association and GHIN whack up the proceeds, who knows ?

If you PAY GRINT (PRO I believe) you get a real GHIN # BUT you access everything through the GRINT app or website and GRINT pays ASSOC/GHIN. Again, how the association and GHIN whack up the GRINT payment, who knows ?

You also have all your stats via GRINT.

BUT, as @DennyJonesmentioned you can NOT access your scores via GHIN as it will not recognize your GRINT assigned GHIN # and name as a "log on" to their system.

I assume GHIN won't let you use its services because you didn't pay them, you paid GRINT. And even though a portion of that surely goes to the Association/GHIN it's a lesser amount they'd otherwise get. So while GRINT gets to access GHIN, YOU do not.

If you go to a tournament or other competition where they want you official handicap THEY should be able to access your handicap and scoring record via GHIN even though YOU cannot.

The only procedural issue I've seen is if your club or a tournament ADDS your score TO GHIN via their portal you have issues ADDING the stats from the round into GRINT because GRINT would think this is a new round and would automatically(?) forward your score to GHIN. This can produce duplicate rounds. HOWEVER,,,,,,,,,,

@el h0zelmentioned you can enter that same round into GRINT as a "practice" round to keep the stats but avoid sending the score to GHIN. Perhaps this is the workaround. Bit of a pain but,,,,,,,,,,

It seems to me that all SCORES are kept in GHIN and that GRINT simply accesses the information when you do a handicap lookup. An I.T. principle is to NOT duplicate data if possible.

I assume, but do not know for sure, GRINT would also be able to access at least your last 20 GHIN scores whether or not entered via GRINT.

Net-net, if you're paying for GRINT PRO there's no need to pay for GHIN also and your GRINT app should ALWAYS show an accurate and up-to-date handicap index.

Whew !!! :classic_wacko:

Please feel free to correct and/or clarify,,,,,,,,,,,,
