My Titleist and Taylormade Fittings - Oops.

I had a Titleist fitting back in May and immediately ordered the 5-PW T100s 2° flat with PX 6.0. The fitting session was into a stiff wind and he did not normalize the numbers. During that fit I was shown as ~6800 spin with 17° launch and 117 ball speed. He estimated that I should be carrying the 7i 155-165 in normal conditions - Cool.

Now that I have the irons --- this summer of golf has not been good, I just don't get the correct distances, I don't feel the kick and hit off the irons, it looks like the ball is falling out of the sky and all the irons go way left towards the end of the flight. I've been beyond frustrated and my scores have show it. I began to suspect that the shafts were not right for me, they didn't even feel as lively as my MP32's with S300.

So I decided to go to a Taylormade fitting on Saturday. The day was super calm only a couple of small breezes. Current numbers for the Titleist's was 14° launch, 3600 spin and 118 ball speed - So too low of a launch and no spin at all. My ball was again falling out of the sky and the low spin was making the ball unstable and falling more left than normal. Basically the stiff wind I was hitting into during the original Titleist fitting was causing a bit higher launch and higher spin, complete misread by the fitter ?

He put me in TM770 irons with S300 105/Modus 105 stiff. Immediately my launch numbers went up to 18° with 6700 spin an 120 ball speed. Even with the 7i I could feel the shaft in my swing again and I could time the kick again. The final fit was 4i 790 bent weak and 3° flat , 5-PW 770 3° flat std lofts, Modus 105 S shafts. I didn't mind the S300 105 shaft at all but the ballspeed number was higher with the Modus.

Here's what I've decided to do. The 770 heads are nice, but I can't spend another $1200+ then sell the T100s irons and hope to come out without a $500+ loss, and TM's backlog is end of Dec at best. So  I'm keeping the T100s heads and I've just purchased a set of Modus 105 Stiff shafts from a poster on this site, I'll swap them out and flatten the T100s another degree. For now I'll play them at current lofts but I could weaken them a bit if my launch is still low. (TXG did a video showing that making the T100 and T100s irons match worked well)

PS: I also hit the SIM driver 9° with HZRDUS Green shaft, what an odd sound that thing makes and weird feel - I did not like it at all. Also, I didn't get much more out of it than my TS3 8° at A4 with Evenflow T1100 shaft. I could bring my setting back to D4/C4 and get the same numbers (so that was a good fit made by the Titleist rep)

** Expect 5-PW PX 6.0 shafts in the classified soon ?

Unless you changed your swing because of it, the wind should not have affected the initial launch angle and spin of the irons. What launch monitor was used for the Titleist fitting and what balls did you use?

The T100s 7i is 32° vs the 770 being 33° so that may account for the slightly different launch. ProV1 for the Titleist fitting and TP5 for the TM fitting (The TP5 is my current gamer ball). Both fitters used Trackman. My 7i swingspeed is 84-86mph and I have a very moderate tempo, the TM guy was surprised that I was fit for the PX shafts.

The other answer is yes, I have been changing my swing to a hip clear and bigger muscle turn rather than a handsy/flippy swing. I probably did have more hands during the Titleist fitting.

Sounds like you've changed your delivery. If it were me I'd try adjusting the lofts on the T100s to get the launch and spin back.

PX 6.0 might be a little stiff for those speeds.

Agreed on the the PX 6.0 being on the stiff side of things for me. They feel boardy to me and I think I overswing with them in order to get them to go anywhere. I think prefer the more active kick/snap of the Modus where I don't have to try so hard.

Years ago I did play the original 770's with KBS Tour Stiff, Soft stepped once, like an idiot I no longer own them but I think those shafts soft stepped were great.
