BD lays down gauntlet for masters after saying he "dominated winged foot". Won't stop there. Going to 48" driver so he can hit it beyond 370. Put on another 10+ pounds too?

JT for me - he fell away from contention because his driving stunk over the weekend. Augusta won’t punish his wildness as much and with his iron play, he is going to give himself plenty of chances.

I doubt BD at Augusta.  He's only competed there 3 times.  I think it takes more experience to figure out the greens, and the rough as it is isn't much.  Enough water to make a miss a real penalty.  Going forward I think the Masters and the Open Championship will be Tiger's best hopes for any more majors.  So if I were betting I'd lean towards players who have played there more.

I'll probably get slammed for saying this, but I literally told a friend this morning when discussing all the young players of today.

My prediction is that Xander is 20 years away from being Lee Westwood, a very good player who people wonder how he never won a Major after contending so many times.  Each time he's close there just seems to be something holding him back, it may be the he's too "nice of guy" or doesn't have the drive or killer instinct that so many say you need. Everyone has said, he's the next great young player to win one, or he'll win several.   I don't think he will.

But the good news for him, I have a horrible track record in predictions ?

I see him more as a Phil case (though obviously he won't win as much). May take some time but  I think he's too good not to win at least 1.

BAD hits a draw off the tee. ANGC there are only a few holes where draw is ideal; numbers 2, 5, 9, 10, 13.

Now, with his firepower, if he scores well on those holes for the week and plays the others OK, he certainly can win. But it won’t be easy.

Draw is pretty ideal at Augusta, but even more glaring is the advantage his carry distance will give him. He can fly the bunker on 1, 5, and 8. Can probably drive 3. Getting it way down there on 11 will be helpful too. I can't really see any hole where the draw is a detriment outside 18, where he can just club down.

As far as favorites go, I expect Schauffele, DJ, Brooks if healthy, Rahm, Rory to all be in contention. I don't think Tiger has shown the form but he always seems to find something there. But I think DJ gets it done this year.

Really? I thought overall it favored a right to left (draw for righties) ball flight.

40 years ago Trevino used to complain that his stock fade shot was not good for Augusta National's layout, and as such he did not believe he could compete well to win the Masters. But I think the more significant issue was that Trevino was a relatively low trajectory shot maker. Augusta's sloped fairways and greens favor the high trajectory shot.

I think DeChambeau has played in 3 Masters tournaments and averaged about 30th place. These days his high trajectory shots and putting are both working great for him, so my guess is that he will win the 2020 Masters.

Avg. November temps in Atlanta are 64 for a high and 41 for the low.  That does not bode well for Tiger.  No one, not even the members, know how ANGC will play in November.  I don't know when their grass starts to go dormant, but they have to be crowding the date.  That far east, by 5-6:00 it will be getting dark and chilly.  As much as I enjoy the Masters, this year would have been a good year to cancel.

I agree he certainly is good enough to win one.  It just seems some guys get snakebit.  See Monty as well.   I hope he does, he seems like a very nice young guy and has a major worthy game for the most part.   It's just a hunch/feeling of mine.

Hitting high traj bombs is helpful at ANGC, as well as good putting.  However if you really look at who wins there it’s the guy who controls his irons the best into the greens. High soft irons to the correct locations pin-high below the hole makes shooting low scores much easier there.

Morikawa could contend.

This is a weird year for sure.  Winged Foot in September and AGNC in November are kinda unprecedented, so the conditions are not as predictable.

One thing for sure - Winged Foot really has no water to speak of - AGNC has a lot, which should make a bomber who misses left and sometimes long (such as #15) think twice...

I'm hoping for Webb Simpson, but that's on behalf of a family member who in mid July picked Morikawa , DeChambeau  and Webb  to win the three majors...

How much will not being able to use a green reading book at Augusta affect BDC's play.  He's very methodical and relies on his data quite a bit when on the green.  Augusta's greens aren't the easiest either.  I'm sure he'll cope but getting the validation from the book certainly helps when he's putting.  I think this will be a factor on his success at the Masters.

After what I saw last weekend just having a hard time picking a non-bomber. I'll actually just stick with BDC and Wolff. Certainly been a weird year though as you say, by masters time US elections will be over, and next masters will only be 5 month away.

I agree with these posts. Augusta is not Winged Foot. Bryson played well because he decided that he only had to be on the opposite side of the fairway to the pin and he could run the ball out of the rough. On the Sunday he only ended up on the wrong side of the fairway once. This played into his stats which made his strokes gained on approaches look better than they normally are. Smart play and he won. But it played into his hands because he didn't have to be accurate. Just had to be long. Not many greens at Augusta where you can run the ball onto the green and missing the fairway will mean laying up. He'll have to play a different game at Augusta.

The iron players usually do well. I'd love to see Louis win it. Morikawa would be a chance. Can never discount Tiger.

A fellow from Columbus did okay there not drawing the ball.

Jack could hit a draw when needed. For example the tee shots on 10 and 13.  AN is more about how you arrive, than you drive anyway.

In the last decade, Speith, Willett and Schwartzel all won in their second appearance at The Masters.

I'd imagine every tournament favors players who have competed there for years...we hear it all the time about the Masters, but has anyone ever done the statistical analysis?  We don't hear that about the Crosby Clambake...even though O'Meara and Phil took down 10 events in 25 years.
