Is Bryson the most disliked us open winner?

Who said Bryson is most disliked? He stood his ground.... followed in his belief and kicked everyone's butt

Now I do think the arm-lock putting technique is CHEATING or should be so because it locks the clubhead meaning the club head doesn't even wobble on the back swing like it does when you putt with the hands.... and I think putting is a test of the hands.  Its the same as resting against chest. But I digress that is for another thread....

All good points, technically speaking.  So is Mike no longer his instructor, or has he gone strictly with Como or someone else?  I know they're close, but I didn't realize he stopped.  But hey, I met the kid once.  Very polite and engaging.  I was a fan after that.  Which makes all the hate he's getting puzzling.  Frankly, it ticks me off.

And I totally agree.  I'm a total fan of how he's doing it.  My kid would snap his back trying.  I had to talk him out of trying!

Mike is no longer his instructor. I thought that was clear. Bryson is a member in Dallas where Como teaches and they talk.

I have refuted this idea that Bobby Jones played one-length clubs elsewhere.

Here are the facts.  In 1930 Jones designed a set of steel shafted irons for Spaulding that were paired in length.  In other words, the 2-iron and 3-iron were the same length, the 4-iron and 5-iron were the same length, etc.  But of course the 3-iron was longer than the 7-iron, which was longer than the 9-iron.

Bobby Jones irons were hickory shafted, and each was a different length.

I don't know if Jones played them or not. I'm simply conveying what they were discussing on the telecast Sunday.

Yup, thats how it is.

Guy is a superb athlete to swing that hard and have the accuracy he does, gotta respect that.

And he can putt and play in the big moment. Perfect age to go on a tear here.

His SG approach and SG around the green were far stronger in the US Open than the very poor numbers he put up in these categories during the 17 tournaments he played in 2020 season.

Those two categories will tell the story going forward. If his wedge game gets consistent, he’s gonna kill everybody.

I think Wolf may win multiple times at regular tour events, but I've seen enough to form the opinion that he doesn't have what it takes to close out a major. Maybe he'll mature as he gets older, but he doesn't have the mental game to be able to get over that hurdle at this point.

You do realize he's only 21?

Of course it's speculation, since I don't know Bryson DeChambeau.  You know who I do know though?  Me.  ? ?

I'll give you an example:

"What time should we leave?" is generally answered with "Around 12" and everybody's happy.

For guys like DeChambeau (if my assumption is correct), it's processed like this:

-We need to be there no later than 1230

-It takes 25 minutes to get there, so we need to leave at exactly 1159 to give ourselves a 6 minute cushion in case we catch that red light on Beltline Rd.  That light makes no sense.  It holds you at a red light when there's literally no cross-traffic and then turns green for you when all the cross traffic finally arrives to the intersection.  It's set up backwards and inefficient, and I wonder if the people down at Traffic Control know it's all jacked up.

-If we're leaving at 1200, then I need to shave/shower at 1130, which means I need to be finished eating by 1100 so I can feed the dogs and let them out.

-If I'm eating a late breakfast of bacon/eggs, then I need to start making breakfast at 1015.  If I'm going with a sandwich, then I can wait until 1040.  Check that.  Make it 1035 if I want the bread toasted.

-Etc.

-Etc.

-Etc.

-Etc.

-And...now we're 9 levels deep...

That's a perfectly normal thought process for him.  Those details matter.  That precision matters.  Nobody else gives a sh*t (a lot of people stop with the bolded part), but he doesn't realize it yet because the only brain he's ever lived with is his own.

Everyone else COULD think like that if they wanted to (he's not any smarter than they are), they just don't because it's not a normal thing for them to care about.

It's a brain function thing that is often confused with a personality thing or a reflection of character.

His obligation is to recognize it, learn from it, and pay careful attention to how it affects his interpersonal skills.  The people who see it for what it is probably experience a much better version of him than those who don't.

Wait, have you been in my head lately?

It's the announcer portrayal of him that turns me off... is he smart? i don't know, but they all talk about him like he's going to win the Nobel Prize in physics

Is he big? yes, but he's nowhere near a middle linebacker or full back like I hear multiple times this week

Does he bomb it? Absolutely, but so do a handful of other guys, so stop fawning over every tee shot

And I'd rather listen to the Tiger fan boys than the BDC fan boys

6'1" 235 is a decent size for either fullback or middle linebacker......from what I've seen.....Sam Mills was 5'9" 220 and Zach Thomas was was 5'10" 230...... don't need to be Urlacher sized ......back on topic

I think the dude is cool as hell. I just want to be sure he is clean and everyone else for that matter.

Too many gaps and questions with the league office on this matter.

The fawning of the distance and the physique got old and creepy QUICK. Knock it off already, announcers. Dude had major game before the recent "change."

I'll ONLY lose respect if he's dirty, or he knows any of these bodies/outfits are using him to drive their narratives. NO forgiveness. None. Ever.

I like Bryson, he's a little weird and sometimes needs to calm down with the science talk but he's a good dude overall. He set out a goal and did it

During the early stages of COVID he was giving stuff away to first responders, every year at Shriners he's super involved with the kids there, probably gives the biggest view into the life of a PGA player.

To me seems like a good guy I think most people don't know half that stuff and just go off what others say.

I think that most of the hate comes from people who hate intelligent and well-educated people. He is a smart guy and not afraid to show it.

On the other hand, being really dumb and not afraid to show it is really popular in our day and age.

Perhaps some dumb ppl can feel intimidated and he no doubt rubs traditionalist the wrong way. I think more of it comes from interactions with rules officials (relief from an ant hole?!?!) questioning the official on his OB ball and calling for a 2nd official and the “don’t ruin my brand” comment stuff. The whole 20lbs of pure muscle and a ridiculous amount of protein shakes wears thin too. It’s clearly closer to 1.5lbs of muscle and 18.5lbs of fat. That being said, I wish no ill will on the man. I respect how he’s taken his own path instead of following the heard.
