Louisville Golf

Recommended Posts

I'm going on a bachelor party to Louisville and we'll have time to play two rounds of golf.  Looking for advice on what courses to play in Louisville.  We'd like to keep it close enough to Louisville so that we can Uber to/from the course and not have to rent a car.  If we rent a car then we'd probably go check out French Lick Donald Ross course or Chariot Run (so opinions on those courses would help).

Also, we've talked about having our pro call Valhalla to see if we can get on there.  Does anyone know what we can expect to pay for the reciprocal price without a member at Valhalla?

ETA: I should add that we’re going in the first week of November. Not sure what to expect conditions wise

Chariot Run is a must play. Quality golf at a decent price, i.e. $59 weekday mornings, $79 weekend mornings.

The Ross Course is a blast, but it's pricey.

As suggested, Chariot Run is well worth the drive. Play 36 there, or pair it with an older course, Old Capital which is about 15 min away Chariot is a beautiful modern links-style course, with all sorts of fun elevation changes. Old Capital is from the 40s I think, and plays tight at times with sneaky sloped greens.

On the east side of Louisville is Nevel Meade, another fun links course that is worth the ride.

Chariot Run is worth the trek IMO. IDK if they're open, but you could pair it with a trip to Caesar's Palace casino as you drive right under it on the way to the course.

Chariot is a great layout with some really pretty shots (tee shot on 12, approach in 14, tee shot on 15) and you can't beat the prices.

Chariot Run is definitely worth going to. You're not going to want to uber there though it'll probably be cheaper to rent a car and you may have trouble getting an uber back to Louisville from there.

Nevel Meade is another solid links course (not sure what part of town you'll be in) but it'll be easier to get to than Chariot Run. It's good and i believe it's BYOB? Someone may want to confirm that.

Depending on the club your pro should be able to get you on to Valhalla. It's usually pretty slow that time of year although i think it's the prettiest in the fall. I believe it's $250 a man plus about $30 for cart and you have to take a forecaddie so that's another $100 or so for the group.

The courses at French Lick are good. I personally think the Dye is way too difficult and i'm about a 2 handicap for reference. The Ross still has some teeth but nothing like the Dye. It's a commitment to get up there from Louisville though.

Not sure if you're bourbon people but if distilleries are open again Old Forester and Rabbit Hole are my 2 favorites in downtown. Willett and Woodford Reserve are my favorites for outside of Louisville. I think Woodford is on an absolutely beautiful piece of property!

Gravely is a really good brewery in town. ATG is always brewing something funky and different and sadly i'm not a fan of any other breweries in town.

Food for you guys: Royals(hot chicken), Hammerheads (hipster spot but good food!), Game (build your own burger with any kind of meat imaginable), Holy Grale (german food really good too), La Bodeguita (cuban cool vibe), Jeff Ruby's (best steakhouse and it isn't up for debate)

Places to avoid: 4th street live unless you have a line beard and enjoy starting fights i'd stay away. Le Moo, over priced and really overrated.

Enjoy!

Awesome! Thanks for all the advice!  Looks like we will be playing Chariot Run and potentially Valhalla if I can get a couple guys to agree to pony up the green fee

Another question, I saw on Chariot Run's website that they're requiring guests to wear masks through out their entire time at Chariot Run.  I have no issue with wearing one while I'm in the proshop or interacting with course personnel, cart girls etc.  However, when I'm out on the course with no one but my group, I don't want to wear one while playing.  Is this going to be an issue? Are they actually expecting us to wear one throughout the entire round?

Prob best to call them and ask? I find it hard to believe they're expecting everyone wear masks during the entire duration of their round.

I was there in May and it was mandatory inside the clubhouse - nowhere else.

I was there in July. Same thing. Planning to return next week, not expecting anything different.
