Got fit into my own driver.

I did the same thing in February.  My 6 year old irons couldn't be beat, same with driver and fairway wood(got beat barely).  Makes you feel good about what you have.  The best part of my fitting was with the short game, wedges and putter.  Glad you saved $675 ($500 driver + $300 shaft upgrade - $125 for the good news= win).

I'd take that $125 as a confidence boost knowing you got the best thing for your game at the moment and the fitter didn't try and upsell you.

The more mainstream or average swingspeed you are, the less there is too improve.Im a 95ish mph with easy swing,no big wrx kick...so for me..not a lot too gain in Driver tech. But in 4 wood accuracy and 5 wood accuracy thats where i can benefit.Got a Ping Rapture v1 ready to go for our NZ Summer next week, cheers,Roger

Posted it many of times,  Drivers are capped at 239 CT units +/-18 units for a max legal limit of 257CT units.

Match your shaft to your swing profile to optimize your launch conditions and you could be sitting pretty for a long time.

For me.  With the vast amounts of shafts out there you could easily match a swing profile to optimize.   The heads have expanded their sweet spot, MOI and the ability to move weight around to increase MOI, reduce spin on the fly allows for a fine tuning opportunity.

You seem to be a very fortunate one,

1) You have a repeatable swing that is not mired by off days or days that might all go one direction and then the opposite the next

2) You were able to find your launch window and the setup matches our launch window

3) You are likely gaining max efficiency of 1.5smash on average.  Allows you the most ballspeed.  No other head seems to be providing excess

The only next thing to do it

1) Figure out your miss and have the head help you and your miss if and when it shows up

2) Maintain your specs and if your current gamer breaks or damaged, you can refer back to your specs (Swing weight, total weight, shaft weight, kick point, flex, length, loft and lie)   And EASILY replace it with the latest and greatest as you know the profile that best fits you!

$125 is a song for validation,  rather than trying to chase 1.55 smash factor (which technically is not possible, readings can skew though)  with a $5xx new iteration.

Congrats! You are the lucky one, I am still chasing...and probably forever will be chasing!

I just went to a driver fitting at True Spec.  Great experience.

My 3-year old stock everything gamer outperformed everything in the place - when the fitter did a search for comparable off-the-shelf shafts to the in-house aftermarket one that fit me, it was the exact shaft I had been playing - with the same hosel adjustments that I fiddled around with by feel.

I thought - duh - I spent the last 3 years learning how to hit this shaft and head, developing the exact feel for what I have to do with my swing - why in the heck did I think I would hit another setup better?

Anyhow thought that was interesting.  I paid $125 for someone to tell me I don't need a $500 driver, so its a win I suppose.

So did you just stumble onto the old driver/shaft combo with the best launch conditions  or did you use a launch monitor back then and basically fit yourself ?

If the former, lucky you. If the latter, then yes, one can fit oneself. ?

Always told my customers to always bring their gamers to see if the new stuff performed better?! On many occasions, they walked out with no new clubs. If it isn't broken why fix it?!

I purchase my equipment entirely by feel and plain appearance, then make it work from there.  I don't use monitors or anything because I can't hit drivers indoors.

Any driver that is plain (hate color and graphics on my clubs) I will try, and I can fall in love or throw out a shaft in one swing.  I swung the Cobra F8+ with a Tensei Blue Stiff shaft off the shelf and it felt and sounded great.  I went to the range, played with the hosel and it was obvious the stock config was best.  And that was it.

what others have said here - awesome that the fitter recognized your best fit and didn't try to upsell you.

I pretty much know the characteristics of a driver head and shaft that I have had success with.

Head is a traditional, pear shaped head with minimal anything on the crown, maybe an alignment aid.  No loud colors.  Prefer a solid feeling/muted sound at impact.  Loft will run between 9-10* depending on the head, but 9, 9.5, or 10* is my best bet.

As for shafts, I am in the 100-105 mph swing range, with a smooth transition.   My most 'effective' shafts, read the combos that put me in the fairway the most, are in the 65-80 gram ranges, with a mid 'kick point' and a smoother feel at impact.  If you look at the Maltby 'playability ' guide it is the 4B2H code.

I have had success in the past with the 'old' True Temper EI70, I used the AJ Tech Metal X, Fujikura Vista Tour 70, Aldila Rogue black 70 MSI 130.

If you look at all of those shafts...they are all 70-80 grams, mid flex, low torque, very stable and smooth fits to my swing.

Right now, I am waiting on two Aldila 2KXNV shafts, a 75 gram green and a 70 gram Blue version.  I really want the Green to 'win', but I am going to bet dollars to donuts that the blue wins out.

Ahhhh, so your fitting with True Spec was outdoors then without Trackman or some other LM device.

Didn't realize that. In any case glad you've got your stick. Sometimes things just work.  ?

Piece of mind is priceless, and when the upgrade cost is zero....you cant make a better deal than that.
