Mavrik 3 wood & driver

So, I currently have a Titleist 915F 16.5 deg 3 wood with a Diamana blue 73s shaft. I love this combination, and hit it pretty good, but in the interest of tinkering, it got me to thinking about a new 3 wood, and possibly driver. I currently have a Callaway Epic SZ with a diamana blue 63s shaft and it is pretty much a cannon. It's a 9 deg, set to 10. I've never been on a launch monitor, and probably wont get to one. I'm just curious how the clubs compare.

Has anyone had both a 915f and a mavrik 3 wood, and if so, how do they compare for launch/spin, distance and forgiveness? Shafts aside, as I will most likely pull the diamana from the titleist and install it in the mavrik if I go that route.

Same for the driver - how does the Epic SZ (not epic flash, regular epic) compare the the mavrik in launch/spin, distance and forgiveness?

The reason I'm looking toward Callaway is a) I've always had great luck with callaway drivers, and b) I've got a ton of Southwest rewards points. Since they cut out the amazon gift cards from their rewards program, I found I can direct purchase Callaway clubs with the points. The options for lofts and shafts are basically non-existent beyond 9 deg driver and standard 3 wood, regular or stiff shaft (no choice on specific shaft, hence reshafting once received). But I do have the option for the max, standard or SZ models in both clubs.

Original Epic could create low spin bombs but also could be a tad unforgiving. Still performs well, but the EF and Mavrik faces are designed to retain a bit more ball speed on misses. Now how you deliver those clubs could vary but me personally hitting all of them with the same shaft, the heads were similar and within a few grams and I had no problem finding the center enough times.

Before getting one, I would try to hit some store and rent them for $20 or get on a LM to hit the three models: they will each look and spin a bit differently and you want to match it best you can to your swing. It may be that the regular Mavrik spins too low for you and the MAX is the winner (weight back, not in draw setting) or you may find the SZ with the weight back to be the cats meow.

I’ve owned both.  The modern Callaways will be more forgiving and higher launching.  The standard Mavrik 3W is draw biased.  The SZ is not, however it’ll be less forgiving.  Honestly the SZ is probably the better transition from a 915F

I would just keep the 915F if it works.  Had a 16.5*  Mavrik SZ with an Atmos Black 7X and it just launched and spun too much for my liking.  My old E8 beta 4wd was better overall than the SZ was.  Was fit into a Mavrik SZ driver, but found a TS3 with same shaft (have since changed it) that was less than half the Mavrik price with almost the same numbers.

I have been in Epic SZ since launch and haven’t been able to beat it. I finally did with Mavrik (Not SZ) with a D+ TX. Beat it only by 5-8 yards, but I don’t miss left anymore. If that is worth $700 dollars to you then go for it.

It’s not going to cost me anything. I have around 130,000 points. I can get the Mavrik SZ driver for 59,000 and the 3 wood for 36,000 points. I can use the other 35,000 points and get 5 dozen balls, lol

I’m still thinking I might keep the 3 wood. Fairway woods and putters are the two clubs I don’t mess with much. I’ll swap drivers and irons out all the time, but for some reason, I hold on to fairway woods.

my cousin went from 917f diamana blue to mavrik gd di and loves it. higher and longer launching. for comparison, on the driver side he went 913 -> gbb epic -> gbb epic flash

as others have said here - if you have an opportunity - try to hit them on a launch monitor/fitting just to make sure. who knows, maybe your diamana blue might not pair well with the mavrik head...

Mavrik Max incredibly forgiving but had a lot of spin. Had it, sold it and went with the standard Mavrik and that is the winner for me. Seems easier to swing it faster. Spin is in a good range so I did not look at the SZ. But I never really look at the subzero heads because I don’t want the low-spin misses that go nowhere and I’d rather reduce spjn by teeing the ball a little higher to change my A of A. The cyclone shape of the standard suits me. I like the lower MOI (high MOI drivers = swings like a toaster on a stick!) Haven’t noticed any draw bias. Easy to hit fades or draws.

I like the high quality Aldila Rogue White shaft it came with but I pulled it because it plays at 45.75 inches! Did not want to trim it when I have other shafts. Put in a GD Tour AD-VR (really like this shaft) at 45 inches, added 6g of lead tape to the sole and it is a great combo. Very stable and long. Best sounding Callaway driver in years IMO.
