That is certainly your prerogative or not like it.  It is my opinion, and the ruling bodies, that it does not create the anchor point that they were banning. That which created a fixed fulcrum for a pendulum stroke.

Yes I understand why they banned certain ones. All I am saying is that imo they should ban any method that allows the club to touch other body parts other than the hands unless you have a disability as in no hand or hands.  The reason being only the end range movements of one joints/muscles/tendons/ligaments should be the only thing restricting movement. Allowing any part of the club to touch another part of the body other than the hands limits movement and is not in the spirit of the game in my opinion.

You're securing and triangulating club on two points of one arm. Eliminating the possibility of wrist breakdown, hedging a risk that exists for every other shot in the game. Might not be "cheating" but it is against the spirit of the rules. It's an unfair advantage that a guy with tour card should not be allowed to use.

If it was an “unfair advantage” there would be more than a tiny handful of guys doing it. It’s been legal for years

This is a issue of rulemakers drawing lines.  They have to draw some kind of line between legal and not legal.  In deciding that "anchoring" was not in keeping with the idea of making a "swing", they could have chosen to draw the "line" somewhere between the shoulder and the wrist.  They chose the elbow.  You would prefer the wrist.  Write to them and push for further change, if you like.

But I don't see how this is against the "spirit of the game."

So I'm playing around with putter and what's clear is that a ban on anchoring to fore arm would force a ban on left hand low. Now, we could not have that could we? Even Luddite me would not support that. In that light the 20 degree minimum on lie angle makes a lot more sense. That's the buffer. I'm agnostic on left hand low, not my style.

With a wedge. as stated, it's impossible with given lie angle of club. To be clear, I've never felt any of this was legal. Even going back 20 years when it started. If a player is anchoring on a Sunday, I'm rooting for them to lose, even if I otherwise like them.

I usually agree with you and dont like bracing the putter like that, but I dont see how you can legislate against it.. the end of my standard length putter grip is 'braced' against the bottom of my wrist.. is that ok?

Bryson does not go left hand low.

I don't think it's an issue so long as lie angle remains at 20 degrees. I think the USGA believes the same. If I was to design a putter for myself, it would be less than 20* lie. I think there's a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode on this, lol.

So where are things going to go now since the development of grips specifically for armlock putters?  Wrist lock grip, arm lock grip...  It has to be in the eyes of the tours more now after hearing "Well if they are going to have the advantage, so will I"(switches to armlock) and now seeing Steve Stricker switching to a wrist lock grip.  There may be an argument that they are "legal" but in reality, so were belly and long putters.

One thing for sure the R&A and the USGA won't be talking about rolling anything back when golf popularity ia at an all time high and the avarage golfer or 99.99% average about 210 yards off the tee. If anything they should think about making courses shorter for the 90% that cant break 90.

***Numbers are approx. and strictly my opinion.
