New Golf Pride Cord Putter Grips? Best Pistol Grip of All-Time?

Recommended Posts

I saw today that golf pride released some new cord versions to complement the “pro-only” series of putter grips. My top 3 favorite grips of all time are the Pingman PP58, Scotty Cameron Studio Design, and Scotty Cameron Pistolini. Wondering if anybody has tried these new Golf Pride Pro-Only putter grips and how they compare?

I’ve always thought the Golf Pride Branded version of their putter grips felt much squishier than their Ping and Scotty counterparts. Has anyone tried these?

The best ever imo was the Dancing Cameron Cord - Red from '09 I think? I still use it on my current newer putter. Love the feel and size.

I have 3 putters at the house - 1 with a PP58 Midsize cord, one with a Pro Only Red Star and one with a Pro Only Green Star.  The Green Star and PP58 Midsize are very similar in profile.  The Red Star is slimmer throughout the grip.  Red Star I think will be pretty similar to the grips you listed above.  I've used the PP58 midsize cord for years (and a Ping putter for years).  I just switched to a Spider FCG and didn't want to put a Ping grip on it, so I went with the Green star.  That was before knowing the cords are available.  Ordering a green star cord now.

The new Pro Only Red Star cord looks from Golf Pride's photos to be a good bit fatter than a Pingman, isn't it? Almost like a PP58 Midsize type profile. Maybe the picture is deceiving.

I think Golf Pride is still getting the pictures straight on the website...no matter the product you click, it only takes you to the blue star...which, you are correct, is definitely fatter.

Yeah I noticed that as well, Red and Green star all take you to the Blue Star grip which as mentioned is a wider, paddle style grip. I suspect one of them will be a skinnier pistol style, probably the red.

Nothing ever suits me like a Pingman but if they could get pretty close on the shape and make it out of a cord material that would last a couple of years I've be all for it. The rubber they've always used on Pingman gets slick and shiny after just 30-40 rounds. I end up having to change mine at least twice a year.

I use the red star an LOVE it.  It has a slightly more pronounced pistol shape and is thicker than the pingman.  The closest to it I've seen are the Cameron CNC, pistolini and the ping equivalent that was stock for a while.  It's also a tad firmer than the pistolini but has the same texture.  If you like any of those, give it a try.

How many wraps of tape do you use on it?

Each to their own but I changed to the pro only red star corded and hated it, changed back to a lamkin paddle and feels so much nicer in the hands. I felt I lost a lot of feel with the corded grip, very firm as expected but not for me.

I placed the Red Star on my Anser2 a few months ago - replacing an Anser branded grip that just plain wore out.

I wanted something with a bit more heft.

this is perfect. great feel.

they make the same size in smooth black.

If you don't mind the grip saying Ping on it go with the Ping Grey Cord putter grip.  I just ordered 4 from Ping last month (must be ordered through Ping authorized dealer).  Same size and shape as PP58.  About $12 each.

Readily available.  For some reason NOBODY caries these and they don't show up on the Ping web site either.  It's a great grip.  No part number for the grip. The actual name if ordering is "Ping Grey Cord Putter Grip".  I just recently got four and the bill with shipping and tax was $54.

PP58 Cord is what model that is!

does it feel as pencil thin as the regular PP58 though in person?

Does anyone know what the difference between Scotty Cameron studio design and his pistolini is?  I'm wondering is the pistolini any bigger? I know it's not much (that is kind of what I'm going for)- but is it any bigger at all?

I'm very familiar with most of his grips. love his "Studio Design" grip but these days I'm thinking it has become a little too thin similar to the pp58 and I need something a little bit bigger but want to stay near that size. Not wanting any other brand but a Scotty to put on a Scotty

The pistolini plus would be perfect, but I can't find one with dancing Cameron lettering that I prefer...

So in terms of diameter is the regular pistolini just a little bit bigger than the studio design or no?

Pistolini is way bigger. About 77g vs 56g in the Studio Design.

Pistolini is the Golf Pride Tour Classic

Studio Design is the Pingman PP58 grip if you want to see at golf galaxy.

isn't the tour classic more triangular? almost like the blue star pro only?
