Scotty Cameron 2021?

CW13

Recommended Posts

Seeming like this is the thread to ask: I've got a Karsten Co Anser from the 60s (with a new Ping grip) that I've loved for years. That sound/feel is just so right and even with a potential new flatstick, it's got a forever home.

Recently, I've been leaving some putts short and I'm thinking of getting fitted for something a bit heavier to keep the momentum moving through my swing (I also grabbed a perfect practice putting mat off the Costco sale last weekend to get more practice putts in either way).

I figure if I'm going to plunk down some change on a new putter, I should finally get a Scotty that I've been lusting after since my caddying days. I'm leaning towards the new 5.5 as I've got a slight arc to my stroke, and from what I've read, is a good transition to a mallet from a blade.

Is that logic sound? I know rolling a few is the best answer to my question, but thought I'd see if there was anything I should be keeping in mind ahead of going to the store.

Titleist 910D2 - 9.5* driver
Titleist 909 F3 - 3 wood (Adam Scott threw it out and now it's in my bag)
Titleist 910H - 21* hybrid
Callaway Apex Pro 14's - 4-W
Vokey SM6 - 52* | 56* | 60* wedges

Hard for me to knock your logic. Sounds good. I have an older Ping Anser 2 and when I roll it well I feel like I owe it to myself to get something new. I've had a SeeMore, a Kingston, a TM Kia Ma,  a TM Rossa, and a TM Spider. None of these worked for me long term. I am at a loss. I am back to my old ping and putting well, but I'm only 2 rounds in with it again. maybe it comes down to preferred weight? It's considerably lighter than the current trend. I dunno.. I am also willing to take one more stab at a change - a Sik Flo or a new Scotty  11. or 11.5

Anyone else still waiting for theirs? I ordered last month through my club and it still hasn’t arrived yet.

I'm still waiting for mine and ordered about the same time. But since I wanted custom length/loft/weight it is what it is (and the ~10% discount or whatever we get is nice as well).

Direct quote from Titleist/ Scotty Cameron Dealer order site"

The Titleist Club business is having our most successful start ever...we shipped 50% more golf clubs in Q1 than our previous high. The demand for golf and our products is unbelievable to see.

In Q2 2019, we shipped 30,000 Scotty Cameron Putters.  We already shipped 50,000 Scotty Cameron Putters on the books for Q2 2021....astonishing numbers!

Because of this, we unfortunately will be quoting Mid July for all new at-once putter orders.  We physically cannot build anymore putters without taking significant time away from building metals, irons and wedges.

What 10% discount are we speaking about??? !!!!

My country club sells us stuff at like wholesale plus 20% or something like that. On hard goods (aka clubs) that usually works out to around a 10% discount, on stuff like apparel and shoes the discount it much better (because the retail markup on them is higher).

came painted as well?

Thanks. Yes, had the fitter make the preorder and instructed to do the paint fills. I wanted something a little different so I requested the black fills.

...also ordered the Rose & Fire Blacked-Out Warhawk cover to replace the stock putter cover. I find the stock cover a bit “loud” ...a fine putter could use a fine cover.

Also wondering.... when does any information usually come out in the cycle? Not till Q1 of 2022?

I doubt we get any crumbs until the end of the year.  I'd love to be wrong.  Hoping for something dark with light milling and no cherry bombs.  Carbon would be great too.  Don't think we'll be getting any of that.  🙂

Just curious if people coming from the Newport2 to the 5.5, how they are liking this putter.  Curious in the distance control, and also in 5-6 footers.  I've always liked mallets for the shorter putts, but had trouble with my distance control with them.  Hitting this putter in the shop, they feel very similar, but I haven't had a chance to try it on an actual putting green.

What size mallet cover did you get? That's a great putter cover.

I think Rose & Fire  has only one size for mallet covers. Usually fits Futuras etc. Mid mallet cover should fit Fatback, DelMar, or Flowback.

I played a Newport 2.5 for the last 2 seasons.   I have no issue with distance control with the 5.5.   In fact I would even say its gotten better.

For me it is so easy to get the ball rolling online with the 5.5 it makes it much easier to focus on pace.   Unfortunately my reads have been just slightly off the last couple rounds so I have been burning a lot of edges.   I can say so far in 5 rounds with the 5.5 I have not had a single 3 putt.  (Knock on wood!)

That's good to hear.  I actually went back, and bought that 5.5 last night.  I won't be getting rid of my N2 anytime soon, but after hitting it again on the greens, I feel like I can really get used to it.  I called about every shop in our state, and nobody had any of these.  They couldn't tell me when they'd be getting them in either.  Started calling all the courses, and luckily found one that they hadn't even put on the shelf till I talked to them yesterday.  Figured I better pick it up, or I may not find one till Q3.

I don't think you will regret it.   I honestly don't see myself changing putters again anytime soon.

My putting has been the best its ever been coming from a NP2 to a 5.5. Not a huge sample size but I find my alignment is better and just generally more confident over the ball.

I got the 11.5 last week also game a 2021 NP2, I've always kept a mallet and a blade, and putt well with both.  Distance control has always been my nemesis with the mallet, great on shorter putts though. I installed a Stability shaft in it, and although I only have two rounds with it, seems to have improved feel and distance control. I did notice the noise on longer putts, which really isn't that bad, I may try and remove the plate from the bottom of the putter and add hotmelt lol not sure it would work though.

As promised, I am posting images of the putter cover with the putter. Very nice cover which in my view provides ample protection. Wish it used a magnetic closure instead of velcro.
