I had the original's - They were nice, but I moved on because that what hoe's do.  Regarding Handicap, many of tour pro's used Eye 2 sw and or lw with their blades, hell Payne Stewart used a Zing lw to win the US Open.

Also if I were to buy them again, I would go with a heavier shaft.

Which shaft did you have in them?  The stock one?

Kind of confused as to why these wedges could be bad for a 10, or any other handicap really

This topic popped up again and so I will add my feedback, I've played off a single figure hcap all my golfing life of some 40 years. I'm a decent wedge player but wouldn't class myself as elite in this area, so the CBX design philosophy (CB head with Feel Balancing Tech, shaft weight that is less of a jump from my CB irons) resonated with me as I play CB irons.

You will see from my sig that I bag a CBX 50 deg. I dislike it and will replace it in the future, here are the issues for me.

Weight: Head is too light, I can't feel the head and so I don't have the control that I want. CBX 50 deg standard SW is D3, I've added lead tape to the head to bring it up to D6 SW which makes it play closer to my requirements. TBF, I like heavier rather than lighter SW wedges.

Turf interaction: I play the V sole in my 565 irons (love it) and so expected to like the V sole in the CBX 50 deg but I don't. Perhaps it is the sole width but it doesn't feel precise at impact, almost like a slight fat connection. I don't get this feeling with the PW of my 565 nor my RTX3 SW. Doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect on distance or control but just feels unsatisfying for me. I'm aware that the grinds per loft have evolved for the CBX2.

Feel: feedback is muted and so have reduced idea of the quality of strike plus it just doesn't feel precise nor satisfying.

Hotness off face: far to jumpy or lively off the face for touch shots around the green for my tastes.

Quality: just feels and looks cheap, even vs other Cleveland wedges eg RTX3, 4 etc. I'm aware that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.

When I read this back every one of these points may not be an issue for a mid or high hcap player which is where these clubs are aimed. I planned on using my CBX as an around green and partial shot club but it doesn't perform how I want it to in those roles so it exists solely in my bag as a full swing club at which it performs adequately but with no great satisfaction for me. Spin is ok.

So its been disappointing and limited in function for me. I have learned from this experience that I prefer a heavier blade wedge, I like the preciseness, feedback and face performance better. I actually worked out that I am a better wedge player than I thought which is nice.

Am I out of my mind for considering the Cleveland CBX2 sand (54) and lob (58)?

Im a 10 handicap currently using older Nike VR Forged wedges.  I have a fairly steep angle of attack and when it comes to full 110 yard sand wedge shots from the fairway I struggle with the thin sole on my Nike wedge.  Tbh, I hit it terribly.

Every review of the CBX2 talks about forgiveness and high handicappers,  but Cleveland’s website advertises them for mid/low handicappers.

I realize none of this should matter, and just play what works for you, so with that - are there any mid/low handicappers playing these wedges?

low single here--I love the  cbx2 for full shots and most shots--but the sand is tricky. I'm used to opening a wedge flat in the bunker--the cbx2 seems to skip a bit...

I played the original CBX for maybe 1.5 years. As soon as I switched to something else, my wedge game improved immensely. I found the CBX clunky and not very good from tight lies or even the sand. Virtually all of my best 2020 wedge shots came after I got rid of my CBX. I get that they work for you some people and I’ve never tried CBX2, but the illusion of foregiveness and actual forgiveness are two different things. The CBX look forgiving, but precision instruments....not for me.

How do you guys like the cbx2 compared to the glide 3’s?  I’ve been playing the glide 3.0’s and have no complaints (I did have to switch the shafts)

Got the all clear from my hip surgeon to chip and putt and tried my cbx2 60 degree on the chipping green for the first time today. Pretty predictably forgiving and seemed to have decent spin.

It was easy enough to open up and play different shots because of the grind. I played the Glide 3.0 SS for a while (had something in between so my memory isn’t perfect). My impression is that the cbx2 has a more aggressive grind than the Glide SS so it’s at least as manoeuvrable even though it’s a bit chunkier and may be more forgiving.

I'm trying to track down a pair of these in 52, 58, to replace my current 3 wedge setup and gain a little confidence/forgiveness.

Anyone know anywhere thats clearing out the original CBX's? Or have ones they are looking to let go of??

I'm cheap, I know. hahaha

In the past 20+ years I have been a +3 to a 5, wrist surgery for the 5 part.   I am playing a 50 and 56 CBX2.   I will start by saying I play all of my wedges long (1/4 gaps down from the 7 and 1/4 gaps up from the 7 as well and PW down are the same length)  I have no issues with lightness or anything else.  No distance issues, and no hot feeling off the face.  The 50* is just absolutely money, full shots, cut shots, chipping around the green all are great.

The 56* I am having some issues with.  It is great for full shots and even 3/4 cut or knock down shots.  Not a huge fan of the grind for any kind of lofted pitch shot or bunker shot around the green.  Something about it doesn't quite work with my technique, I have no idea what it is.  I also play a 62* RTX4, and it works great for everything until the grass has gone dormant, and trying high lofted shots with a Low bounce 62 doesn't work so well.

I have a 54* that has the different sole grind, and I may bend it to 56 and try it before moving one.

I am still on a search for the perfect 56, I may try the Ping series

I’m an 8-9 and I played a set of the original CBXs (50/54/58) for about a year and a half.  My wedge game improved tremendously with them and really became one of my strengths.  Fast forward to this past season, thinking I knew what I was doing, I upgraded to a set of RTX-4s (50/54/58) and my wedge game just deteriorated all year to the point where I lost confidence around the greens.  I’m a pretty basic guy when it comes to my short game: bump and run chips, medium pitches and sometimes flops. I’m not doing much that’s fancy here.

Needless to say, I’m in the process of switching back to a set of CBX 2s now.

FWIW, even though my wedge game is pretty basic I did find that the "S" grind was pretty disappointing. I love my 46 and 52 CBX 2 (V-grind) and truly adore the CBX Full Face 56 and 60 (both with C-grind) but I tried a CBX 2 56 with the S-grind and had little success.

For me the S-grind 56 was shorter than it should play for its loft on full swings and also inconsistent, sometimes going where I aimed and sometimes having an exaggerated cut ballflight. And from bunkers the S-grind seemed to drag in the sand much moreso than the V-grind. It was all very unexpected because visually the S-grind looks mighty similar to the V-grind.

It reminded me of the time I tried a Vokey SM6 54-degree with Vokey's S-grind (visually a little different than what Cleveland calls "S"). Same left-right misses on full swings and same sense that it was fighting me in bunkers, especially soft sand. Maybe I just have something against the letter S?

I think you might have something there. I flirted with the Jaws 54S for a bit. I really enjoyed chipping with it. But full shot should have been around 110. I couldn’t get it to go past 90, even flighted down. Maybe it was the shaft. Who knows. That experiment ended quickly.

Yes, the stock one did not work well for full shots and I am not a high speed player

Thx for the feedback and the others - as an experiment I just ordered a custom 56 CBX2 with DG 120 that matches my iron specs (length/lie/grip).  I did 1 degree weak to 57 to see if it will allow me to get rid of 60 and go 48-53 (both set wedges) and then 57.

ironically, my #1 goal with wedges when I came back to the game after 10-15 year break was to try using set wedges for the first time... primarily because I was struggling massively with a blade gap wedge. Admittedly this was very tough for my ego as a former low single digit junior player, but I knew the first wedge positions were really like a “10 iron” for me and exclusively full swing clubs. modern strong iron lofts threw a bit of a wrench in on setup as well.

i had no idea the CBX line even existed, but glad to see I was on same wavelength with the T300 order and a more forgiving PW & GW.

if the CBX2 SW experiment goes well maybe in the Spring I do a gap wedge (replace set 53 wedge) as well and/or try a full face lob wedge for the first time (would keep it for use on certain courses/bag rotation).

lead time looks like it is 4 weeks +/-.  Will report back
