Pinehurst on the low end

Looking for guidance on filling in a couple days w/ the lower end Pinehurst courses. Have a group there for a week end of October and trying to fill out some less pricey options.

 

Have played Longleaf & Hyland Hills and those are solid options. Already have Southern Pines on the list for this trip but what about:

 

Beacon Ridge

Foxfire

Seven Lakes

Whispering Woods

Legacy

Legacy is one of the better Pinehurst courses overall i feel. Foxfire has one course thats pretty good, the other is just ok. I thought Beacon Ridge, 7 Lakes, and WW, are eh at best.

Of those five Legacy for sure and the Pines course at the Country Club of Whispering Pines is better than all of the others you have listed. But make sure if you book there you play the Pines course and not the River course.

Not sure on $$, we have always done a package but Mid Pines and Pine Needles are 2 great options - both Ross designs and both very challenging.  Pine Needels a little more open off the tee.  Just returned from there last week and the greens are in great shape.

It's a little south and I'm not sure of your transportation situation but we've enjoyed Deercroft Golf Club (https://deercroft.com/.   The course has been reworked by Kyle Franz and it is always in good shape when we visit in the spring.  It does not have a fancy clubhouse or much amenities but it has great Sandhills topography with sand, tall pines and fast fairways.  I would rank it ahead of Foxfire, Beacon Ridge and Whispering Woods of the courses I've played on your list.

I've played all of those courses, but in April so I have no idea about fall conditions.

 

Opinion-wise, I am glad to see Hyland and Southern Pines on your list.  They would be my first two choices.  Legacy would also be in that top tier, it's always been in nice condition.  Longleaf is solid but I find the wide open nine to be uninspiring so it's not a favorite.  Foxfire has long been a go-to for afternoon rerounds, it's usually very inexpensive.  One course is somewhat better than the other but I can never remember which one and generally haven't cared.  Played 7 Lakes and Beacon Ridge once each, both were fine but largely unmemorable.  Whispering Woods had some interesting holes and very quick greens, I'd like to play it again.
