PXG Gen3 0311T Reviews

OspreyCI

Recommended Posts

Hard to most asking for long term reviews since 2020 has been a crap show.

On a whim, I just picked a set of Gen3 0311t heads from another Wrxer. Having some Modus 120’s put in. Coming from 0211’s and wanting a smaller package. I have demo’d Gen3’s twice at PXG. Hit the P’s last Sat and did not entertain because the 7 iron looked to be the same size as my 0211. After demoing all the new irons, I really wanted to go smaller

like the new TM line.

My question is the long-term(ish) reviews. How have the worked out for players? How is the forgiveness? I need a little as a 8 hdcp. I know they feel amazing, just wanted to see how people are still feeling about them.

Thanks.

Oh awesome. I know we've been in the same threads lately.   I would totally prefer the T to the P as I'm hitting Gen 1 0311 (P) now.  I just feared they weren't forgiving enough for me as a 6 HC.  The Gen 3 were the best feeling clubs I've hit to date. If I just knew I could play the T with no problems.

good luck.

I too want smaller.  I've actually been looking at T100s and Apex combo set.

I’ve had mine for a few months and like them a lot. Feel is good and forgiveness is good for an iron of that size. That said, this is my 3rd set of hollow body irons and I still get the occasional long ball. Thinking of getting the 921T or t100 to compare.

Thanks. I will let you know in a week or so about the forgiveness. Lol.

Have you demo’d the TM 770’s or 7PMC’s? There was enough forgiveness in there for me in those heads and hoping these are the same.

I did. It try the MCs as I assumed there wasn't enough forgiveness. The 770 looked great when I tried them but I didn't care for the feel. And I took a pretty significant loss in distance.  By that I mean 5-6 yards

I had them.

During the fitting they were amazing.  Blew the T100 out of the water.  Super forgiving on mishits, .....

In real life they were the same as every other players irons.  I found the long irons harder to hit than T100.

I prefer the Chrome look instead and recouped most of my PXG money.  It was an itch  I had to scratch.

Don't mean to threadjack, but what moved you away from the 0211's? Just the size?

Just the size and had the opportunity to pick up some Gen3 heads. Always wanted them after hitting them in Dec last year. They are just so good.

Mind you, I had some of my best rounds with the 0211’s. Hit 15 greens (again) on Sunday. Won a few skins with those irons. There will be some minor regret when I hit the T’s off the toe!

i had my fitting about 6 months ago. i tried both 0311 and 0211. i went with the 0211's cause of the price. but i have had nothing but great enjoyment with 0211s. they have definitely helped drop my handicap and consistency has improved as i get more used to them every outing.

you wont be disappointed in the 0211s if you are able to put the time and effort with them.

I got my set back in March thru the PXG fitting and absolutely love my irons.   I use to swap out irons every few months just for something else but since the Gen 3 T irons went into my bag i have not even looked.    They are amazing.    The forgiveness of the 0311 T irons are great but more importantly for me is the distance consistency.   Spot on each and every time.   I got caught up in the distance iron category and hated the distance charged fliers that would happen every so often.   The PXG are spot on and has made my decision making that much easier.

I have the 4-PW in 0311 T but I also just purchased the 4 and 5 iron in 0311 P version.  The 5 iron sits in my garage but the 4 P iron is in my bag and just provides that little extra forgiveness for the longer clubs.

I also purchased the forged wedges and putter.

I realize they are more expensive but they are great clubs that produce for me.    I dont have any buyers regret at all.

I am going back to the fitter tomorrow to try and work out why I am having a hard time with the 0211's the 4-9 seem fine and there have been some good shots, but not as good as I hoped to see overall after the fitting. The PW -LW are just awful for me with the MMT80. I do think it is just a shaft weight issue and reshafting is an option, but the Gen 3 0311T gave me just slightly better numbers with the Elevate 95 shaft in my 1st fitting but it was not enough to spend the extra money at the time.

Well as always trying to save some money does not always translate to the Course so tomorrow we will look at the 0311T again and the forged wedges with Elevate 95 in the irons and Elevate tour in the wedges. It was a gamble going with the lighter shaft in the wedges and it has not been good for me coming from 125 gr wedge shafts, maybe I could adjust over time but I am not that patient and would rather send these back and start fresh than start playing shaft games with the O211.

After a evaluation this morning by the fitter the 0211 are going back and Gen 3 0311T are being built with the Elevate 95 in the 5-PW and Elevate tour in 50,54, 58 forged wedges. The numbers were just better and the feel is better to me, I also like the look of the smaller heads much more so that just helps with confidence.

  • 2 weeks later...

Oh Lord Mercy.... that’s how I start this post.  This site is the best golf site on the planet... I scored the heads from one Wrxer amd shafts from another Wrxer. Built an amazing set of Gen3 0311T Modus 120’s and GP Z Cord grips.

The last two years I have played two sets of irons as a 8 hdcp- 2017 P790’s and PXG 0211’s. I was playing ok, but tired of the massive size and huge bounce. I took a chance and went straight to a demanding type head... sort of. I knew these would be a different animal. I have demo’d the Gen3 0311P’s three times and loved the feel. I just could not afford them. I digress.

0311T’s are much more forgiving than I thought. I am now an 8 hdcp and don’t strike the center all the time. These are way more forgiving than expected. I hit a few that I thought would be short of the green and they ended up in the front. Heart was pumping on a 193 yard Par 3 when we all thought it was going in with a 5 iron. These are very accurate and distance control is WAY better than my previous sets. Are they easy to hit, not so much, but when struck well they are money. I LOVE the size and look and I will never go back to that big size iron.

So thankful to the guys on this site for hooking me up and having and amazing set of irons I could not have imagined I would  have in my bag. Dang I am excited for my next round.

I have a golfing buddy that just ordered gen 2 irons and he is probably a 3hc and was playing 19 apex pros. He did a combo set a 6-7p, 8-pw t. He said he wishes that he would have went all T heads.

I'm debating 5-6 p and rest T or even 5hyb, 6p, 7-gw T.

I used the 5 and 6 iron several times today and they are really forgiving. We have long Par 3’s where I play. Again, 8 hdcp and not the greatest iron player. I actually hit the long irons better than the short irons. Lol. The whole iron set is just accurate. I am tired of players distance irons. This will make me better and the first round was VERY positive.

Agree with @fujiman.757on gen 2 and 3 being very similar. The Gen 2 is a fantastic value. Nobody can argue that at $150/club. It might be the best value in golf if the stock shafts work for you.

Gen 3 is likely the best feeling iron in golf - I have baby blades, 620CB, P7TW, and 681T sets also, and none have the sound/feel of the PXG.

Performance differences are minimal between gen 2 and 3. I went to a higher spinning shaft in my Gen 3, along with going to 0311T in all but 4/5 irons (1* weaker lofts). I’m hitting my Gen 3 the exact same yardages as my Gen 2 with higher spin, better descent angle. So I would say Gen 3 is likely 4-7 yards longer loft to loft and shaft to shaft.

Did you see distance gains over your 620cb iron? My Gen 2 set should be arriving today!
