Wow those look amazing, I really hope this company does well and talk about all the extra little goodies that came with your irons. Wish more companies were this generous. Hit them well and hope more buyers will post their their experience with this company. I don't see these in my future but I see more recreational golfers getting into the game as the price is so reasonable.

This is a more general thread with people posting their setups and experiences:

Titleist TSR2 // Autoflex SF505

Titleist TSR2 16.5 // Vista Pro 60s

Ping G25 20, 23 // Tour AD True Spec

Titleist T200/T150 5-GW // Steelfiber i80PR

Titleist SM9 54.10, 58.12 // Steelfiber i80r

Nice update and good progress.  I looked back and I'm averaging about 1-2 more GIRs since new set of Sub 70s.   (but my sample size is small).  Mainly I have hit some great 5 irons into greens more consistently and with confidence.  More importantly thought is my bad misses are not nearly as bad so I'm getting a better look at up and downs.

Taylormade M6, 9.0* head set -1.5*, Nippon Regio B+ shaft, 65 stiff at 45.5"
Cobra FLY Z+ 3 wood, orange, aldila tour blue stiff, 14.5*
Sub 70 939x, 3H(18*), Proforce V2 85 stiff
Sub 70 939x, 4H(21*), Proforce V2 85 stiff
Sub 70 699 Pros, 5-AW, Modus 120 stiff
PING glide 2.0, 54*

Taylormade MG3, 58* HB
Scotty Select Newport, 73* lie, 1* loft, 34" (Testing Taylormade Bandon 1)
Bridgestone Tour BX (Alternate ball VICE PRO)

I'm interested in a very similar set up to yours, but with weaker shafts.

I have some MP4s with TT XP 105 R300 that I bought off Callaway Preowned in 2019.  They are nice clubs, but fairly beat up.  My game plan is to use the MP4s this year 6 iron - pitching wedge.  I've used them on/off the past couple years and have found the 4 and 5 irons are penalizing, but especially 7 iron on down there is not much difference versus other irons from a performance stand point.

I mostly used Maltby TE forged with TT DG R300 taper tip last year.  These clubs are nice and there's nothing wrong with them, but I like the look of the MP4s/muscleback irons better.  Vanity I guess?

I'm only an hour from Sycamore and could fairly easily set up an in person fitting with Sub70.  They also have their demo program I could try.

Your pictures and comments in the thread are very helpful.  Thanks for posting!

I would 100% take advantage of this!  How cool to go see everything they offer in person and do a fitting while your there.  Maybe wait for the new driver to come out just for curiosity sake.

They have custom shaft options,  So you are in luck!

MP4's are very traditional, so when you look down there will be a pretty big visual difference.

the PW likely the most.  Coming from Cobra Amp Cell Pro MB's  the 639mb PW has some "decent" offset.  I weakened the lofts.  to help a little but doubt it made that much of a difference.

It took a little bit to get used to.  Ball reaction in general is very vert similar, MB to MB.  Shaft to shaft,  There was no significant difference in ball flight.

the 7 &  6iron though are CB's which are PHENOMINAL! I do not regret in the slightest moving to CB's from the MB's.   While its in my head I could technically play all CB's and probably be just as happy.

I am still using my TM MC (per sig) 4 &5iron, as I am scared to order just 2 clubs since I live in the middle of the pacific ocean. I figured I might make a second order with more clubs in the future.

I would say if you are THAT close to the site. DO it go down there and try them.  They have been wonderful and now I have a hard time looking at any other club when you consider, quality vs pricing.

The black finish while cool as heck actually aids well in regards to sun reflection.  BUT there has been some decent sole wear. So it does give a "novelty" fealing.

Anyways good luck!

I agree take advantage. I live about a half and have gone there twice. Once for a fitting and once for an adjustment. Jason is really easy to work with and won’t rush you out.

I just recieved my 639CBs 4-W today. They look so much better in person. Putting them down next to my MP20 MMCs and I can hardly tell any difference other than the top line on the 639s is slightly bigger. Offset and blade length are very similar.

You cannot beat Sub70s pricing and customer service. Jason was great to talk to on the phone and very knowledgable.

Yups the size and offset on the CB should be "pretty standard"

What blew my mind though is the sole width, It looks from the bottom, pretty wide,  but when you look top down it almost disappears. Its amazing how they cut the top lines and the sole relief.

Other than that, The CBs are SOOOO forgiving and I can smoke a 6 iron almost 180y its ridiculous.  for me my 6 iron is no more than 175y TOPS.   But with the CB, I can hit smooth 170y shots all day,  175 is my go to distance, (ie have a 175y par3 thats what Im hitting)  and if I have to step on one for a short par5 or long par4,  I am not afraid to hit the max 6 vs trying to hit a soft 5iron.

You are going to LOVE the CBs!!

Aloha Gang! I am back,

Its almost 1 year to date when I ventured to Sub 70.    Will say with full confidence, that I love and still love my purchase.   With that I want to give you an un filtered 1 year report with a bunch of updates.

1) 09/21/2020 Purchased my 1st ever set of Sub70's - PW-8iron 639 MBs,  7-6iron 639 CB's

I have not changed and played these religiously for this past year.

2) 03/15/2021 I purchased the last part of my irons, 4 & 5iron 639 CB's to round out the set.

I have been using these as the mate for the last 6 months.

Verdict?

Forgiving - Check

Visual - I love the BLACK!!!! - Check

Playability - Check

Versatility - Check

Value - Absolute Check

Now to be fair.... and try to give the most unbias review, I can, I will give you 2 points that have been a challenge for me.

1) Offset, I have played minimal offset for years so the 639 MB/CB have enough offset to visually mess with me and its been a little bit of a sticking point purely visual, NOTHING that affects playability, just visual

2) Turf interaction,  something about the sole that while knowing I am playing with a blade, the leading and trailing edge is a little sharp,  so either rounding/relief or adding a touch more bounce could help a little in regards to a blade type club head.

That's about it..... for these clubs,  They are WONDERFUL.........

Part 2,......... incoming

I just had an issue about 2 weeks ago.

I was hitting a shot out of the rough and caught something, I know these clubs are soft, but I have never had a club sustain damage like this before. =(

973017858_4ironFace.jpg.52ca119dcf8334d1004e382b513aa7fc.jpg1794600581_4ironsole.jpg.23c30a19d975f34a1594a14aaf11a8a8.jpg

What ever there was, it took a nice chunk out of the bottom.  This is the 4 iron,  that I purchased separately 6 months ago.  So its till on the newer side.

What I do want you to notice as well is the excessive wear on the club.  Face, sole and rear.  The next photo is the 5iron next to the 4iron deep contrast to condition. 596482185_sub70back.jpg.9c633b7714c50a6532fa0460d1f632c6.jpg

Remember purchased at the same time.  Unfortunately somehow the 4 iron is deteriorating.

Now put them next to the set I purchased a year ago

PW, 8iron, 7iron CB,  I already assumed that black wearing off from excessive use, but the 4 iron was an absolute surprise.

I reached out to Sub70 and ALMOST Immediately after I sent the email I had a response..... 11 minutes to be exact.... Are you SERIOUS????!!!!

image.png.9d7a65d030f501647ac45ed55c07ccfa.png

Within 2 email exchanges, Sub70 was already shipping me out a new replacement club.  If this is NOT customer service and Guaranteed satisfaction... then you must live on another planet.

This is the most amazing experience and more so how far and deep they stand by their product!  I am stunned honest that this type of service exist in this day and age.

I am assuming this 4iron was a random fluke and more so wanted to give Sub70 a heads up to check just in case something has happened during their building process. But I didn't expect an new club so fast and ZERO hassle at all.

SUB70 you have out done yourself and as I mentioned directly you have a loyal customer for LIFE!

THANK @Sub70Golf Truly I appreciate what you have done for me and my golf game!

Sincerely

Part3

Well do you remember my 1st post about the 2 issues that's been nagging me?

Well....... What do you know its like Sub70 was making clubs just for me.

I periodically check time to time and when I had the 4iron issue I mentioned about, I thought I would check the site for irons just because,

What do you know,

649mb tours https://www.golfsub70.com/sub-70-649-mb-tour-irons.html

Minimal Offset,  and redesigned sole? Are you kidding me?  Just for me?  WHY not,

Check this out -

639 Sole

 188571065_639sole.png.b00792fa12374dbedadb1adae5d60869.png

Notice the 2 sharp edges, front and back? Also notice the offset.

now compare that to the new,

649MB's

1998759695_649sole.png.a7b1f6b283e28d6cae2abf6090d27dee.png

They reworked the rear edge and added more relief to the front leading edge and Minimal Offset!!!!!

So in addition to the AMAZING customer service that Sub70 gave me, I told them, instead of wasting shipping 1 club to me how about you add in the 649MB's in there!  I now have some 649's incoming as well.

Unfortunately, they don't come in black, so I wont be able to keep the "black" flow,  but as we can see the black was surely cool, but when it does wear down it will lose its "cool" factor as the original color starts coming through.

Anyways...   I am excited to play with these 649's.  The 639's surely were a value to get and try,  but if these 649's work out, I am taking the 639's to Japan and leaving them with the InLaws, when I go back and forth to visit and play up there!

Thank you Sub70 you have been AMAZING!!!!!

I wanted to give Sub70 a fair shake and they did NOT disappoint. Its been a solid year,  and I am even more excited about the up coming 649MB's

If anyone wants a continued review of them, please let me know! I now have  Mevo+ and a home simulator setup, so I can get some solid data from there as well.

Anyways I hope its informative to those that have been checking this brand out.

I didn't realize you hadn't heard of the 649's.  There was a fair bit of discussion on them in the big Sub 70 thread, when they emerged on the scene.  Obviously, you didn't see it.

Love seeing follow up commentary.  And, hope you'll keep the updates coming, with the 649s....

I knew about them for the most part especially when TXG started highlighting them, BUT was broke a year ago and was on a massive budget

(Bad client, stuck me for $50,000 & I had a rental with a bad tenant that pulled that COVID19 no rent eviction moratorium BS. So had to deal with lawyers with that one),

So when I took the chance on the 639's I didn't even consider spending anymore money period.

I finally was able to get my finances straightened out the beginning of 2021 so that's when I decided to get the 4 & 5 iron only.

I played with the 639s as I was happy for the most part with them,  but there was always this nagging feeling about them.

I am in a WAY better financial situation so I thought I would make the jump as $460 for 6-PW with the $50 upcharge for my shafts ,$510 + shipping,  I can afford that now LOL.

Anyways since I started reading about the revised specs and Prior to the Sub70 I was playing Cobra Amp Cell Pro's I think the 649's are going to look really close too them.  With how soft the Sub70's are, the weight distribution, this might be my winner.

I will keep you posted for sure!

Thanks for the great reviews. I have a couple of Sub70 clubs (699 Pro gap wedge and 699 Utility iron) and have been considering pulling the trigger on a full set of 699 Pro irons. I've been debating the black or satin finish. Your photos of the black after a year of use has been very helpful. Mahalo!

It is my pleasure! It has been fun testing these out and taking with the Sub70 people. I rock their hats all the time and people always asking about them.  So when I show them the clubs they go crazy LOL.

Yes the black finish is tricky. I will say.

1) It looks sick

2) its functional for glare reductions

3) It does wear I have accepted it

4) Has it worn bad? its only been a year, but 2 years its going to get close to the original finish

If I could have ordered the 649mb I WOULD have ordered them in black though, still knowing what I know.

Been playing Sub70's since 2020 - 09/21/2020 to be Exact,

09/21/2020 - 639 MB/CB combo -  Wanted less offset.....

09/22/2021 - 649 MB - Love these and might consider buying another back up set.

04/19/2024 - 659 CB ordered -

Just ordered some used 659 CB's for fun, Been playing the 649MB for 3 years now, LOVE them but just wanted to see if CB would make a difference in my life.  Anyone curious?  if not wont waste anyone's time 😃

Howzit bruddah! 👊🏻 Saw your post and definitely interested in your impressions. Even though moved back to NC from HI a few years ago, just wanted to stop in and wish the best to you and the family. Good thing about making the sub70 purchases is there is no need to look for an actual parking spot during a last minute run to Roger Dunn’s 😂

HAHAH!!!!  Howzit Mah Man!!! hope NC is treating you well. Hawaii misses you my friend.

Touche on the Parking and RD's.... the parking is getting tighter in that structure.   But still go there time to time,  still get my woods and wedges from them LOL.

Be safe and take care my friend, when they arrive will do a little a mini review!

Kinda looking for an update... been playing less golf but thought maybe a CB move might add a little spice!
