Callaway EPIC Replacement

Recommended Posts

I took some epic speed once when I was in college pulling an all-nighter.  And I definitely did see green the next day.

I saw pictures of them, will be called epic speed and will have 3 models. Epic Speed, Epic Max and Epic Max LS which is basically the new sub zero. The drivers are black and green accents on the bottom, so no packers colors. Early Feb release.

will this have the adjustability with sliding weights like the flash?

The regular speed does not have sliding weights. The max and the Max LS did have a sliding weight but the weight track on the Max Ls which is the sub zero replacement, the track isn't as long towards the heel and the toe. The max name is sort of misleading as the Speed is the more game improvement draw biased driver, the Max is the middle sort of like the flash and the Max LS is the players driver like the sub zero, but in the Mavrik line the max was the most draw biased driver.

Any idea on the offered lofts?

Yes, that is misleading.

Callaway Marketing Department: "We need to have a Max in the lineup.  Ping crushes it with Max, and even TaylorMade is using Max.  We need maximum MAX!!!!!!"

Callaway Product Team: "Well, that is the Mavrik Max.  These are Epics, and we should not confuse our customers claiming that the Epic Max will be as forgiving as the Mavrik Max.  It is very forgiving, and fitting of the name."

Callaway Marketing Department: "We need to have a Max in the lineup."

Epic Max seems off from a grammar standpoint:

Epic (adjective): extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope

Max (noun):  the greatest quantity or value attainable or attained

so this is extending beyond the ordinary to the greatest value attainable.... seems a little redundant.

There are 2 fairway woods also, non adjustable glued hosel and they are claiming 36 percent larger sweet spot and like a mph faster ball speeds than the mavrik fairways. Honestly, the drivers and fairways look cheap but I'm not one to care how they look as long as they perform. But I am sure a lot of people will complain about the look of the bottom of the club.

Non adjustable on both models?

so if i have the epic flash with sliding weights i will want the epic speed max to match the flash?

Hard to say but that would be my guess. The Epic speed the picture I saw looked super elongated and didn't have a sliding weight and looked like the Mavrik Max shape. But yes I would guess you would want the Epic Max.

Tell me more about the AstroBlaster!!!

Well... it has a blowdryer engine... for... uh.. automatic... hitting. The paint is... made from camel hair... uh.. because... camels are very aerodynamic. The shaft is made of black licorice braided together so its strong yet nobody will eat it because the flavor. Licorice will whip through the zone quicker. Thee grip is made of astroblaster... which is.. a... uh... failed 80s... tire brand? Chopped and rolled onto the licorice... so this year's price tag is very warranted. Lots of new tech.

Thank you!  Epic fail in my opinion.

Might be a fail on WRX but I think the vast majority of golfers don't adjust the loft on their driver once they leave the store.

Get fit for the loft you need and don't worry about it after that. It gives the designers more freedom to put weight where they need it for performance rather than in an adjustable hosel.

Adjustable fairways allow many of us to switch shafts in and out very easily.  Lots of shaft ho’s on here.

Not disagreeing with you, but that is still a very small percentage of the market. No data to back this up, but I bet the overwhelming majority of all clubs sold have the same shaft in them their entire life and I bet it stays in the same position too after the first few rounds with it.

I’m sure they will sell and do just fine. I just will not be a customer for them this time around.  They will not miss me, lol...

I am completely in agreeance with your statements.  A few OEM's are losing my interest on fairways and hybrids going away from adjustable hosels.  Even if I am only looking to swap shafts.

Got to see all the new thing for 2021 today and got my hands on the 2 new FW. Really like the shape of the epic speed fw because it just little bit open . Also the max LS is going to get even lower spin that the mavrik Subzero. Can confirm that both fairway wood are glued hosel. Also the color are green, black and white. They should go through the USGA confirming list very very soon so keep your eyes open!!!! Can also say that they going very very hard on the ball market with a new product who’s based on what the tour pro want. Can also say that they gonna have 3 other new iron that are very different from the new x forged line. Overall I was very very impressed by the callaway line up for 2021.

Did you get to see the new apex pros in hand? I saw a picture of them and they look pretty sweet but didn't get to see them in person.
