I've been turning into a bit of Wilson Fanboi this past year or so. I love their irons. Fortunately, there's no such thing as club monogamy on this forum, so I can also chase Macs, Mizunos, and RAMS. I'm even considering a brief fling with some Spaldings...

I'm thinking about replacing the ferrules on the FG-51s as several are turned down a bit too much and some are loose.  Going to regrip them afterwards as well.

 

Has anybody done a reshaft on the FG-51s?  Any issues?  I reshafted a '76ish Staff Blade one time and it had a threaded hosel and was a huge pain to get all of the epoxy out for the new shaft.  Anything like that going on with the 51s?

No issues.  Modern shaft insertion ( no threads).  Threads ended with the failed aluminum shaft experiment era.

No threads, but mine were compression fit taper tips and removing the shafts was a b***h.  Afterwards I ended up reaming the heads to a standard sized .355 to make reassembly easier.

I play with a set of FG-51’s.  I have a 1 iron through Sand wedge although I don’t use the sand wedge (have a couple of vokey wedges).  Unbelievable feel on these blades.  I smoked a 3 iron 235 yards today for my second shot on a par 5 landing it on the front of the green.  Very unforgiving clubs.  You need to be very relaxed and let the power of the club do the work but man, I love them.

SO I am getting a set today, they are supposed to be in good shape the heads anyway. The seller said that the shafts may have lots of pitting, however the pictures dont show it, it looks like the heads and shafts have loks of mildew on them, he said they have been sitting in his basement for 15 years.. Anyway I am hoping that I dont have to open up that can of worms trying to reshaft these, with the reaming and the the fight to get the shafts off to begin with. I will share pictures later today when they show up

With what I know of the Finnish market, they won't be worth much unless they are truly new/unhit, and even then you're probably not going to get much, (thinking 100-150€, maybe.. if unhit to the right buyer) unfortunately. 

 

It's a pity, if I were still in Finland I'd be interested myself, but there just isn't much of a collector's market. Would love to see pictures through.

 

Where are you in Finland? Where's your home club? I used to play EGS and Tapiola quite frequently in Espoo.
