New Callaway Irons - APEX MB, X Forged CB, X Forged UT

Recommended Posts

Those X Forged CB’s at address give me the tingles.   OMG - from the back they’re kinda ugly, but at address they’re amazing.

Interesting! I wonder how much functionality those back plates have for weight purposes.

Its to help them dial in swing weights for special orders without the need for tip weights, the plates on the CB's and Ut's come off as well as the Circle weight in the mb's. All to help with their custom department

You hit the nail on the head; while they do look better in hand than in pictures on the shelf and in the bag the CBs are never going to win a beauty contest against things like 620 CB, P7MC, ZX7, or JPX Tour.

Having said that, at address they look sublime and they feel and perform exactly as one would expect.

I meant more from a player customization standpoint. Like is there something underneath that can be messed with or will this be a strictly custom order tool for them to use.

It looked to me just like their same torque wrench fitting that it is on their woods, so i'm sure it'll be able to be messed with by us degenerates

I like the weighting thing on irons and wedges, it's part of the reason I love PING and I don't understand why more companies don't do this. This Callaway system actually looks easy to use, like it's possible to do at the shop/fitter level. You could take the tool and adjust swingweight on the spot if you had all the different weights.

I was pretty disappointed. I’m going to be in the market in a year and the xforged was something I was hoping would be a consideration. The last model looked great. This one I don’t even like the idea of the look of them being in my bag. it would have to be the best performing iron ever and I’m not sure that would happen.

Personally, I think TM has beaten Cally in the looks department with their players line this year.  It will be a fun head to head once everything has been released.

I have to say that CB and MB irons look better in these new photos than in the stock photos posted earlier. I do have a concern that the crews on the back of the irons may collect dirt and hard to clean.

Just hit the ball with the front of the head and you should be fine 😋

I own callaway stock. I root for them. I think their wedges are really good. I think odyssey will always do ok. Yet no one can deny that taylormade has the best like right now. I just never really like taylormade drivers.

Both companies are great, just a matter of personal preference.  I am sure these irons will be awesome, just a little put off by the looks initially.  Im looking forward to seeing the new drivers from both of them.

These irons look good but I’ve gotta say I’m disappointed again that Callaway has chosen to release Apex MB with X Forged separately from Apex and Apex Pro. I’m not combo-ing those. I’m sure others have no issue with it but I want a clean line offering like Taylor Made did recently with P7MB, MC, 770.

Thought they could have even tried to blend Apex and X Forged branding with something like

Apex MB  (obvious MB)

ApeX Forged CB (one piece CB)

Apex Pro (Multi material CB)

Apex (the players distance one)

All with consistent finishes and you’d have some amazing combo set opportunities like you have with Titleist, Srixon and Taylor Made.

Callaway clearly disagrees and that’s fine.
