New Callaway Irons - APEX MB, X Forged CB, X Forged UT

So glad I bit on the new TMs after getting tired of waiting for new X forged.  Cally has lost their minds with the new X forged.  And by the way... Do they really need to stamp "CB" on them???  No sheet those are CBs.  Did I miss a news release announcing Callaway hired Chris Bangle?

first glance seems there is little difference in topline from MB to CB...hopefully they create a stock combo set to compete with Cobra

Really love the XForged CB at address, but the back side just ain't pretty.  Especially when compared to the timeless beauties the competition is releasing right now.

I hate irons with a really hot face and generally prefer solid body irons but I'm intrigued by the fact that they're using that technology to increase speed on off center hits but keeping it comparable to solid body irons on center strikes.

Was reading some reviews on the TM website (P770's) and all the negative reviews were coming from people who ordered then long and were complaining that the swing weight was jacked up and TM basically responded "Sorry, cant fix that".  NOw while IMHO the P770's look far better, will be interesting to see how much the customization moves people to them

I can't wait to see them in hand side by side.  I am playing some Apex MB/Apex Pro Dot combos right now and love having the extra playability in the longer irons.  But, I have it all figured out.  I may just roll with a full set of CB's this time around.  Or MB's.  Or, a combo set again.  Haha.

You should do MB long irons CB short irons and really mess with someone heads as the walk up to number one thinking about a money game..

The MBs look fantastic behind the ball. Just right.

 

Something about the short hosel length throws the proportions off on the CBs, at least to my eye.

@jmck - those are fitting irons with interchangeable shafts.  The actual clubs will have a traditional hosel.

I'll be interested to read more about these. I've seen them with X-Forged on the back and also with Apex on the back. The X-Forged seem to be a smaller head. Does anyone know if they are combining the Apex and X-Forged line?

I’m definitely going to buy the UT and the XForged. They look funky in a bag but perfect from address.

Is there not a better way to hide the weights? Especially, in the MB. Pretty disappointing.

Love the look for a UT, but losing it for me when compared to p7mc - these just look a bit clunky from the back

I just picked up my 18' X Forged and was a bit nervous when I saw there may be a new version. Happy with decision to get the '18 now!

I have the '18 X Forged and love them...but heaven's sake, Callaway, make a PW that doesn't look like it came out of a different iron set!

Me too... and I'm hoping Callaway is considering releasing all of their players stuff together from the MB, solid CB, multi material CB down to the players distance (Apex).  For me the idea of a "set" of irons has changed as I'll likely never get another full set of the same head.  I like to combo.  And honestly I really want to be able to really combo- maybe as many as 3 heads in a 6 or 7 club iron set.  Right now I have the '18 MBs with the '19 Apex Pros and I like that setup but if they'd release it all at the same time in a clean look I might end up with something like..

9i & PW - MB

8i & 7i - CB

6i & 5i - some combo of multi material CB and regular Apex.

 

Just depends on where (if at all) I start losing gaps and distance drops on my low toe miss.
